View Full Version : From raw foods to raw juices for weightloss?

Hey there :)
So I've been 100% raw for just about three weeks now. I lost about 5 pounds in the first week, but have remained at the same weight for the past two weeks. I cut back on the amount of nuts I was eating, but so far I haven't noticed a difference.
I know we all experience raw vegan diets differently, but I'd like to know what else I can be doing to speed up weight loss (I do exercise about 3 times a week). I read a few posts on this board regarding weight loss... there was someone who hadn't lost weight until months into her raw lifestyle, while other people have gained. I also read another poster's comments that when people don't lose weight, it's because the body is expending energy to heal itself. In terms of noticeable health benefits, I can't say I am seeing much of a difference, other than not feeling weighed down by food, as I would feel with conventional, cooked meals.
I decided then that perhaps the best course of action would be to go on a juice fast, to help speed up the weight loss.
Don't get me wrong, I love being raw, and plan to continue for many months, if not longer, depending on what I experience, but I'd like to hear what other people experienced in their early days of being raw. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the matter. Thanks

I was one who didn't loose until a few months into it. It was definetly slow for me, but my body had alot of healing to do. I never weigh unless I'm @ my annual gyno appt so I can tell you I lost 14# in 1yr. I think I was like a size 6 maybe, now I'm a 2.
I was kind of impatient @ times too b/c everyone else seemed to loose alot quicker, but my body was different. There were times when I would release more & times when it would be the same (that was all determined by the way my clothes fit) Honestly, I learned patience & it paid off. I listen to my body when it wants heavier foods & I listen when it wants lighter foods, or sometimes no food :)
Whatever you choose, I just encourage you to listen to your BODY! If it wants food then I would hold off on juicing even though you want weight loss, b/c there maybe nutrients in the foods your body is craving that it needs to heal & depriving it of that will only make it worse.
BLESSINGS :)

i released lots of weight... and quickly. i ate anything i wanted... as long as it was raw. i also fasted here and there for a week to ten days.
i would recommend you start exercising more often... perhaps going for a nice walk after dinner every night. it's that time of year... for getting outside and enjoying nature. (at least it sure is here)

Three weeks is very little time, and 5 pounds in three weeks is a respectable weight loss. If you are only into raw for the weight loss, you won't last, so try to concentrate on getting your body healthy and the weight loss will follow. Eat healthy and exercise. It will happen.
I understand that you may feel frustrated. I am going through a similar situation as my weight loss has been coming in spurts as well. I have been eating all raw for the last 7 weeks. The first week I was shocked to see that I lost 7 pounds, as I wasn't expecting such a great loss. But then the next 2.5 weeks I lost nothing. Then the 4th week, I was amazed again to check my weight and see that I had lost another 6 pounds (13 pounds total). But then the following 3 weeks, I have again lost nothing.
Even though I want to lose weight faster (I still have 75 pounds to go), I know this is best for my health... and so I will continue to stick with raw for the health benefits even though my weight loss is much slower than I'd like.
Just stick with it, especially if it makes you feel good. You might get rewarded with another weight loss spurt as I did. :)

Make sure you are drinking enough water and also - I know this doesn't happen to everyone, but for some people eating late at night slows down their weight loss.

Kgarett- You know, that's a great point! I'm actually not drinking enough water. I always forget to drink up, even when I'm in the midst of a mighty thirst. Thanks for the reminder.
Rkk- Oh, phew! I'm glad somebody else is experiencing the same thing!! Well, I noticed today that I have lost one pound in the past few days... so that makes it a total of 6 in three weeks. That says something, I think. We'll get there, I'm sure!
Katchmoleen- We're up to 6 now ;) Yes, weight loss is one of the primary reasons for my going raw, but optimal health and well being is the other. There's no way I'm going to stop being raw anytime soon just because the weightloss is slow, but it's nice figuring out where my body is and whether or not there's something else I could be doing differently.
Aleesha- Lol, yes, that type of "fast weightloss" is what I was expecting, particularly from all the testimonials I read and heard! But, it's even clearer now that we all have different types of bodies, and what works for one doesn't necessarily work for others. It's a study in patience and listening to my body for me! :)

Thanks Katie! You're absolutely right, I think patience is one of the key things I need at this stage. I think I'll hold off on juicing for a couple of weeks, and see where my body stands at that point :D
