View Full Version : Unadultered food

I have read about how many of our foods are being altered, engineered or whatever. Its so scary. And I find it sad to think that there are so many people with food addictions as a result of some of the methods used.
It has me rethinking about what I eat. I now have added "untampered" as a prerequisite for the food I eat. No seedless anything just pure simple unadultered foods...the fruit and vegetables our grandparents used to eat.
I was watching Paul Nison (thedurianking on YouTube) and he said something that surprised me. I thought organic guaranteed that a food wasn't genetically modified.
However, he said that organic produce's sticker number will being with a 9. If the second number is a 4 - then it's non-gmo. But, if it's a 3, it's a gmo. He said it could happen even with organic.
I didn't know that.

If your fruit's label has 4 numbers, it is conventionally grown. 5 numbers starting with a 9 means it was organically grown, and 5 numbers starting with an 8 means GMO.
I have taken this off the web but it does not cover organic GMO.
Seedless does not mean it is GMO.

Thank you for the information. And wow! I didn't know organic could be GMO. I would think non GMO should be part of organic certification even if it isn't at this time.
I take seedless to mean there has been some tampering going on. I just don't think its a good idea. Seeds after all, a seed is what grows into a plant or tree or whatever. A seed has life force. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems to me we should look for sources of Life Energy like seeds. They also often contain powerful substances. Hence grape seed extract...grapefruit seed extract... etc.

Here's a link to the video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DjvaZrHAO88&playnext_from=TL&videos=RdnOZvVqbh0)I was talking about above. It starts at the 1:45 minute mark. *Ü*

I agree with you regarding the seeds. I do feel that the love is missing when I eat seedless.

i do hear a lot of misinformation about seedless=GMO.. as sport said, seedless does not necessarily mean gmo. it means hybrid, and it means the plant cant reproduce, or if a plant is hybrid but does have seeds (like corn or peas for example), the plants wont breed true, they will revert back to a parent variety. that doesnt mean they'll revert back to something other than a pea, but it could mean, like with red kale for example, that they will revert back to a green form of a parent, they wont breed true red
thats fine if you choose to avoid seedless fruits...personally i prefer my grapes without seeds and i wont go without nanners... and it is definitely wise to be aware of "tampered" food... but just do be aware that seedless doesnt necessarily mean GMO, it just means hybrid, and yes it can be hybrid, organic and non-gmo

Hello Kaybee,
Thank you for the clarifications. However, I did not think seedless meant GMO. By "tampering" I did not mean GMO either. I just think nature has a lot to offer and we don't need to create "seedless" or other changes by special breeding methods or other means.
I want my food as close to natural as possible.

Paul Nison is incorrect (if that is what he said...I didn't watch the video), as far as produce and grains are concerned. As a former organic farmer, I can assure you that no grain or produce that is GM can be certified organic. That is what all the hoopla is about the Monsanto GM corn or wheat that is trademarked. It can cross-pollinate into an organic farmer's field and cause their product to be contaminated with GM and the farmer can lose his certification, AND Monsanto can sue him for stealing their product! However, a MANUFACTURED "made with organic product", like in a box or can, can contain up to 30% GM ingredients without having to reveal the GM ingredients.
If the produce sticker number is 5 digits and starts with 8, it is GMO. STarts with 9, it is organic.

The cross pollination issue can have widespread repercussions. Its not a new topic, however, it seems not much ( that I am aware of) has been done to contain the problem.

Our good friends at Monsanto have now planted GMO trees. I guess that ruining the food was not enough for them.

Oh lovely! Well I guess they must be allowed and its "consumer beware".
There has been some mainstream medical professionals who have started talking about the virtues of an all plant-based diet. Esselstyn's book about reversing heart disease will save lives. I think its great.
The only problem is, within plant based nutrition you have to be aware of some of the pitfalls. The veggies today are not the veggies of our grandparents: soil conditions have changed and the use of potentially harmful pesticides is widespread. The best solution, for me at least, has been to seek growers who are trustworthy. Even then, there may be issues they are not aware of.
Its really become a "consumer beware" world.
