So, Friday night at Target I picked up a Jack La Lanne Juicer and Oster Food Processor. I know others have more expensive things, but I had to be reasonable. I am a teacher and extra money usually goes to school supplies. Yes, I do get excited when fine point green and purple pens are on sale at Staples. You have to see me when notebooks are a nickel a piece!

Anyhow, I picked those up last night and tonight I went to Whole Foods among other places. I was at differing times both in awe and in shock. I got radishes for a great price, but the honeydew I picked up turned out to be $9 FOR ONE. I am into supporting local organic farmers and picked up as much varied fruit as I could, but I cannot do one piece of fruit for that price. A bag of carrots was 19.99; it has 25 lbs of carrots in there. My favorite purchase of the day was Lotus Root. Lotus root and ginger is great for healing inflammations and especially soothing ulcers, which this end of the year school report/paperwork thing is getting my stomach to. I'm not a fan of medicine/pills, so I used to eat it in college and it does work pretty well. I read about it in a home remedy book way back...

I was looking for star fruit and found it but it was $5, so not today. There is one place I go to for guava and blood oranges, so maybe later in the summer when prices are less crazy for fruit. Tomorrow is my Farmers Market Day so we'll see what I find. I think I am okay with Spinach for now. Now, on Chef vs. City they had durian, so it reminded me to log in and write something new and hopefully, interesting.

Question for you guys- Raw brussel sprouts? How do you eat them, just chomp away like you would an apple? Juicer? Cut up and eat in salad? They just don't sing to me as an eat me raw vegetable. I like them, but always steam or sautee them, so I was wondering.

I remember reading somewhere how Alissa' didn't get a vitamix for quite some time.....she just used a regular blender and food processor....infact, her DVD shows her using a certain brand of food processor and eventhough you can't see the brand, I went to the store and got the same one she had for about 30.00, the blender wasn't a vitamix either. Nice equipment it just that ....Nice, but not necessary. Well, congrats on the new equipment.

As far as brussel sprouts.....I'm no help, they haven't sung to me either but then I never really liked them cooked either.

I tried raw brussel sprouts. I will again when in season this summer. I cut in 'em half and marinated in honey-mustard dressing, then warmed in the dehydrator. Without the dehydrator, would have left 'em to marinade longer.

"You have to see me when notebooks are a nickel a piece"

Chopped and marinated sounds good.
You find notebooks for 5 cents??
I am a teacher too and I get an absolute HIGH when I find them for 10 cents.
Target in the summer before school... aaaahhhh the best!

Currently I've been working with an old blender that has nearly seen its last day, but yesterday saw that Bath and Body (or is it Bed, Bath and Beyond?) has a three in one for 119.00. Imagine that..a juicer, blender and processor all in one. I was thinking of purchasing it to start with and see how it works. I'm eager to begin juicing...never tried carrot juice or any fresh juice for that matter. :) Well, I did have orange juice but darn that was a lot of work squeezing those oranges!

I'm still saving up for my dehydrator too. :)
