Has anyone noticed that there teeth have worsened when eating more fruit? Everytime i look at my teeth i see something for the worse, like holes etc. I do eat alot of pineapple so im wondering if it could be down to that. I was wondering though if theres many people on here that have had issues with there teeth due to alot of fruit.

I've been cavity free for years - until I started eating raw. Then I got a cavity and I had it filled. Lesson learned - now I brush after I eat fruit so the fruit sugar doesn't sit there on my teeth. My last checkup I was cavity free, so for me it's working. *Ü*

Rinse with water or maybe warm water with salt to neutralize the acidity?

Hmmm. Now that I said that, there are people in many areas of the world who eat mainly fruit because that's what's available and they seem to have very strong teeth and gums.

I tend to rinse my mouth out after whatever fruits i have. I do find especially after having pineapple the water i spit out always tends to be quite fizzy, would this be due to the acidity from the pineapple?

I have had good teeth until I became raw, and as time progressed they got worse.

The jury is still out however it might be a mineral lack thing. Learned that nuts not soaked or even eating a lot of them can rob the body of minerals.

I am currently oil pulling daily to see if I can make a difference with this. Implementing some other stuff too.

yes absolutely. The acid affects your teeth. I have had this prob too and plan to try to use a straw to drink juices with. I have also found it very trying in the past few months being sans blender. The amount of chewing required is crazy and unsustainable.

I do not have great teeth anyway (family failing) so I am very careful.
I oil pull for 20 minutes in the morning.
I rinse with water and a little baking soda after eating. I keep a glass of the mixture in the kitchen and a small bottle in my bag.
I do not brush my teeth within 30 minutes of eating as the acid has weakened the coating and you will brush it away. After 30 minutes you can brush.
I brush with coconut oil during the day and with a glycerine free toothpaste before bed.

pitted fruits such as cherries, nectarines, peaches and of course citrus seem to be the biggest culprits for me

I only found this website yesterday http://www.rawfamily.com/index.htm
but read on it how her raw kids teeth had become very sensitive. Having a lot more greens seemed to help.

I went to the site but, there isn't a search option - do you know where specifically to find the information.

The raw family (Boutenko) had this problem because they weren't eating enough dark leafy greens. After adding a lot of leafy greens to their diet, the problems went away. You might be eating plenty of fruit but not nearly enough leafy greens. I limit my fruit intake to small snacking and my breakfast. I do have a minimal amount in my green smoothies but for lunch, dinner, it is all veggies.

Brushing with coconut oil?? Very interesting... I will have to try that. Any idea what it does?

My downfall is flossing. Always, always floss.

Also interested to know about the brushing w coconut oil. Is this being done by many? What is the origin of this practice eg Ayurvedic/ ?

DebB

I don't know about its origins - it just felt right to me. I was already oil pulling with coconut oil, and it brightens my teeth that way ~ so I just started brushing with it.

It seemed that no matter which tooth paste I bought, it had abrasives and other stuff in there that I'd rather avoid. *Ü*

DebB: is that all you use on your teeth/ the most in the way of brushing? ie coconut oil? Do you pour it on your toothbrush like regular toothpaste? Just wondering if it makes your toothbrush all gluggy/ the oil just stays on there.

Coconut oil is solid at room temperature.
I use little single portion jam containers (the ones that you get with your scone in a coffee shop) and fill them with the coconut oil and have one in each place that I am likely to brush my teeth and one in my bag. I just dip the toothbrush in and start brushing.
I do recommend that you lean over the basin while you do it as you can sometimes dribble a little.

Hi Factoid ~ I keep a little glass lidded container full of coconut oil in my cabinet for brushing. It's solid. I just stick my toothbrush in there and use it as a spoon as mash it full of the oil.

In the summer, it will melt here - that will be easier.

I use a SoniCare toothrush - when I'm done brushing, I just rinse my brush out well with hot water. It's never gunked in there, it rinses very clean.

And yes - that's all I use anymore for brushing. It works really well for me. *Ü*

My teeth are driving me mad and im really trying to figure out the cause. Im just thinking does everyone really think fruit is the issue? Its just ive read many different opinions on it, some say fruit isnt a problem whilst others say it really is. On one site it was mentioning how fruit doesnt stick to your teeth and that got me thinking, maybe it could be things like seeds etc that are bad on a raw diet.

I've developed a sensitive back tooth over the past few days and was doing some searching. I found a couple of interesting things and will post in case its of interest ...

http://www.rawfoodsupport.com/read.php?2,139612,140275#msg-140275

I have some pascalite clay so have started using to brush today. Will be interesting to see if any improvement.

Also am going to try this wheatgrass remedy but it will have to be powder.

*also please do your own checks on pascalite clay, if anyone is thinking of using it as it seems a pretty far out there substance after doing some further reading!
( Though listed as a calcium bentonite, at least one government agent has hinted it may well be an as-yet-unidentified material outside the scope of present knowledge. Dr Walter Bennett, Ph.D., who investigated it in depth, stated it was still "a very mysterious substance".

Pascalite research Harvey C. Lisle, chemical engineer, specializing in biodynamics, established PASCALITE, as a "rock dust", is "Alive." radiating energy 100 feet, and POSSESSES THE ABILITY TO NEGATE NOXIOUS ENERGY. Placed above or below the TV set or microwave. testing shows complete irradification of the harmful electric energies emanating from them. And IT NEGATED THE NOXIOUS ENERGIES FROM A 12.000 VOLT LINE IN THE AREA IN FRONT OF HIS HOME.

One research group gives a possible explanation as to why Pascalite differs form other clays. It lies relatively near the famous, mysterious Big Horn Medicine Wheel, which dates back to antiquity. "We feel medicine wheels were build on vortex areas where earth energies surface intensely, and the Pascalite contains that same intense energy.")

The Health Renegade show online has a great episode regarding this! Kevin Gianni is very informative. He says he uses a tooth brightening powder that helped his teeth tremendously after they turned green from the green smoothies. Check it out!

For me, fruit has definitely wrecked my teeth. Before raw, I had great teeth. I have seen a rapid decline in my teeth and attribute it to the fruit.....

Kevin discovered that drinking on a green smoothie all morning until lunch was the culprit for him, much like myself I am sure.

Dont believe any dogma about raw healing teeth, in many instances, raw peeps have more teeth trouble. Practice prevention always and get whatever is on your teeth off them as soon as you can.

For me, it isnt for lack of greens as I eat, drink a whole lot of them!

I have some food grade Bentonite clay. They used French Green clay in chocolate bars and gave them out freely when Chernobyl happened to help with radiation problem.

Macaws flock to certain clay banks to detox from poisonous seeds they eat.
http://www.inkanatura.com/macawclaylicks.asp

I've been considering drinking clay water to help detox from prescriptions and other metals. In fact, I think I will start that. I did it before briefly but I think I'll do it again since we're going raw. I don't think I gave it enough time the first time, and this time I'll be doing the raw thing so it might make more of a difference.

I read it on a newspaper interview with a dentist somewhere. he said you should rinse with water because if you brush , the acid from the fruit has softened the enamel on your teeth. or at least i think thats what he said! thats what I do anyway, but I probably wait less than 30 minutes usually.

speaking ofteeth what kind of toothpaste what does everyone use?
I've been exploring various types over the last few months and this is what I'm currently using....

I can not see the word vegan on it so that would rule it out for me. The glycerine would also rule it out.

I've been eating the most fruit out of any womyn I know on the planet over the past 3+ years and I never get any teeth problems. I have many fillings from when I did eat a low fruit diet.

I wrote an article about fruit and teeth which you may find helpful...
Does fruit rot your teeth? (http://sweetjuicyfreelee.com/2009/11/04/does-fruit-rot-your-teeth/)

Here are some pics of the biggest fruit eaters in the human race :-D

Here is a video about it...
Does fruit rot your teeth (http://www.30bananasaday.com/forum/topics/does-fruit-rot-your-teeth)

My top tips:

* Like nature intended - Eat ripe fruit
* Consistently keep overt fat levels low, 955 ratio's work best for me
* Brush with water and soft bristle
* If you go back and forth on and off cooked food, expect teeth issues and don't blame fruit
* Give your teeth a little brush and rinse after dried fruit, aim to eat fresh fruit.
* if dates give your teeth pain, blend them

What about the Periocomfort toothpaste? That might be ok no sls or glycerin I don't think.
I think I want to check out some of the coconut oil and bentonite clay methods somethime though.
For btwn teeth which one do y'all think is better:
http://www.waterpik.com/oral-health/why-waterpik.html or

definitely both are better than flossing I think.
