Hi everyone!
I haven't used shampoo and conditioner for about a year now, and mainly wash my hair every second day with bicarb soda as a cleanser and floral water as a 'conditioner'.
Occasionally I use apple cider vinegar for a bit more shine.
I'm looking for something to give my hair a little more volume, what do you all use that is natural?
Tell me your natural hair product tips. For beauty/hair/personal products I generally use the guide 'If I can't eat it, I don't use it.'

I've been looking into this also...I feel like I'm evolving to include more natural things in other areas of my life, so I decided I will not relax my hair anymore!!!! I have already put in my Sister Locks!!!!!

I absolutely LOVE my SisterLocks!!! It was the BEST decision I ever made with my hair!!! No more Relaxers! No more Chemicals of ANY Kind!!! I don't even need to put any oil on my hair!!! Sisterlocks are done by a method of locking hair with a natural texture, similar to crocheting. No extensions or hairpieces are used. There is a wealth of information on the Sisterlocks locking technique available on the internet. This chemical-free and extension-free hairstyle allows African American women to grow their hair longer than just about any other hairstyle.
When I saw someone who had been wearing them for over 10 years, I knew that's what I wanted to do with my hair. I didn't want traditional DreadLocks (though my best friend has them and they look fabulous on her)... I wanted something smaller and more versatile. I'm SO glad that I got them put in!!! It took 20 hours....Yes, I did say ***20*** HOURS...!!!! And worth EVERY MINUTE!!!
Here's the official Site from Dr. Joanne Cornwell (founder): http://sisterlocks.com/ Her SisterLocks are ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! And, YES that IS all her natural hair!!! Scroll down and see the other photos! It's an incredible hair style!!!

That's FABULOUS!
Renee, you look great! It looks like you've lost more weight too!
Good to hear you have left the chemicals behind, doesn't it feel wonderful?
I'd really love to see more pics as they grow out too. Keep up the good work!
Hi Renee ~ Your hair is sooo pretty! How nice that you took pictures and shared them.
I decided about 2-3 months ago to stop coloring my hair as well. Yikes - I think I'm all gray, I didn't know that :) Such is life ~ ~
When I'm all grown in/out (?) I'll post a new avatar picture.
I'm still using shampoo and creme rinse, just a dab though and I rinse it out immediately. I'm still using styling products too. They say they're "organic", but I'm learning that's not apprently so. (sigh). I stopped using soap months ago and dry brush daily.
I use olive oil on my skin, but I try to use it sparingly. It's tough because I live in the desert, so I haven't been able to give it up completely. *Ü*

You don't have to totally give up moisturising your skin from the outside. Olive oil is a great moisturiser! :)
While reduction is a significant factor in the evolution of personal care, the main point is switching to natural products, usually single ingredients for outside health and beauty care.
Oils like coconut, olive, sesame, rosehip, macadamia, almond and others are far superior to the synthetic laden pap found on the 'beauty' shelves in the supermarket (or even in the organic store for the most part).
For everyone it's an evolution taken at their own pace. We realise after discovering raw that food is the start, not the end of the journey and go on from there.
I won't be giving up my oils rubs after my shower!

Just hijacking my own thread:
Check out these three videos on sisterlocks and the perception of 'good hair' in the culture of African American women.
I've so wanted to see Chris Rocks 'Good Hair' doco for so long, I'm fascinated! These videos address a part that apparently he didn't address, i.e. talk to women with natural hair (braids, locks, etc).

Daily before entering a pool, wet your hair so your hair will soak up the initial water instead of the chlorinated water. You can crush the leaves of five petal hibiscus flower and take the juice. Wash the hair with this juice. Hot air can be damaging to your hair so when using a hair dryer use the cool setting.

I rarely wash my hair as is and am letting it go to dreadlocks soon (after I trim a bit around my face). They just look cool and they fit with my lifestyle.

I've had my dreadlocks for 5 weeks now and love them! I'd take a pic but don't have a camera with me.
It's the easiest hair I've ever had and I've never felt better about how I look.
