She says to use walnuts and, as in most of her recipes, she doesn't say whether we're supposed to have soaked them or not, so.....is it assumed that we soak them first or just use the dry walnuts? Perhaps she did mention it somewhere in her book and I missed it. As for her other recipes, should we soak the nuts or not?

Sooo grateful for this website and your help! Thank You!

Hi Aurelie,

I believe it says on the recipes whether it calls for soaked nuts or not. Not every nut recipe does, in fact a lot of what I have been making doesn't. The mock salmon walnuts do not need to be soaked. Enjoy! That's one of my favorites.

Yea, Joya's right....

No need to soak the Walnuts for this Pate! When Alissa wants you to soak, she says to soak... It's one of my Favorites, too!!!

Try it on some Onion Bread, on Celery, Romaine Sandwich with Sprouts, on a Flax Cracker.....Hey.....

You can eat it on a Train, in a Car or on a Plane!!!! :p

I believe most nuts need to be soaked. And Alissa DOES say to soak walnuts, under "all other nuts" on p. 278.

I once asked David Wolfe about his thoughts on soaking ALL nuts. he said that of course, it's better to soak them, but not ABSOLUTELY necessary, UNLESS you had cancer. He did not say "cancer" but instead said "the c-word."

HTH,

Mary Kay

Joya, Reneeh and Mary Kay...Thank you all for your help. I guess I won't be soaking these nuts and just enjoy them anyway, but, it's still a little perplexing to me that most nuts should be soaked prior. Maybe the best thing would be to soak to activate the enzymes and then dehydrate. Again, thank you!

It has omega-3 in it..I've been 100% raw vegan for over a month and off and on for 30 days.

I don't know about salmon, but mock salmon pate is very healthy, and, yes, contains the omega 3s you seek! Walnuts are a rich source. :)

Mock Salmon Pate has nothing to do with salmon, other than the color!

The mock salmon pate is still one of my favorites! Thanks Alissa.

I was negligent in soaking nuts when I first went raw. I notice a distinct difference in energy levels & ease of digestion when I soak the ones that have enzyme inhibitors these days. Always listen to your own body, despite the general advice. For some it's not a big deal, for other people it does make a difference. I think I became more sensitive as my body became healthier.

The first time I made it, I was amazed how close it is in flavor as well. I guess it's an individual thing. It's all good. :)

If you have a dehydrator and time, i recommend soaking them anyway and dehydrate them to dry.

Her recipes doesn't require that you soak but it will work if you do and dehydrate the walnut after. I did it both ways and i prefere soaking them for they are easier to digest for me.

It is a very tasty recipes and it is so good.

I always add kelp to it for upping the "sea" taste. Personal fav in collard rollups or a scoop on top of salads. Trying to really cut back the fat to under 20% of overall calories. Add lots of veggies to the wraps and all is good. Enjoy
