Hi everyone,

I have just begun my raw journey. I started about 4 days ago and I feel greet, I can't believe how much I am enjoying my food. I was raised on processed food and I have no doubt that it is harmful to our bodies. I am looking to learn. I am curious to see how it her newbies have gotten started and what ideas other veteran rawies can offer. I haven't bought a juicer yet. I was frightened by the high price tag and not quite sure if I was ready for the juice part yet. Any advice?

I am 45 years old and have beebread chubby my entire life. I can already see and feel a difference. The most exciting thong about this lifestyle is that I don't feel hungry and I don't crave bad foods--especially chocolate.

Anyway I am looki g forward to meeting some new friends and learning to live a long and healthy life.

Hey, Tbones! I'm in Virginia too, DC area. Sounds like you've got a great start! I've gotten a few of the raw kitchen accoutrements, such as a dehydrator, high-speed blender, and food processor, but not a juicer as of yet. I never really wanted to juice my food because I didn't want to waste the pulp. I may get one eventually, however, as I've learned that you can use pulp fruit in smoothies and vegetable pulp in dehydrated crackers. As long as there's no waste, sounds like a good idea...I've just never felt compelled to do it, at least not yet.

You can start with just a blender, in my opinion. actually, you can start with nothing, and just eat your fruit and make salads. I sure love my smoothies, though.

Anyway...welcome aboard! :)

Welcome "bones", all you really need is a blender, everything else - including a juicer, is really superfluous.

Sorry, that's not the truth - Chocolate (crack-cao) whether raw or not IS unhealthy.

Eating raw rawks!

TBones, the tried-and-true smoothie recipe at our house is:

A couple bananas, broken up
A handful of spinach
A squirt of raw honey
(put these in the blender; fill with water to the top of the produce level; blend well)
Add frozen strawberries, one or two at a time, and keep blending until your smoothie is the consistency you want.

I throw in whatever else I want if it is just for me and my 13-year-old daughter: apples, oranges, kiwi, mango, any fruit that I have an abundance of or need to use up. A couple of my kids won't drink them with these added items, though. Sometimes I sneak in a few cranberries or blueberries in; dried goji berries are a good idea for the nutritional wallop they pack. Those have to be ordered from an internet store.

I love smoothies in almost any form, but some palates (sp?) are more discriminating. I would recommend using ice in your smoothie if none of your fruit is frozen--makes it like a frozen treat that way.

Mostly, I recommend experimenting with it and having fun! You'll be amazed at how much better you'll feel with all those wonderful nutrients floating around your system, cleaning house. :)
