Is eating non-raw Oatmeal really that bad for you? I usually prepare it by heating water on the stove and then dumping the oats into the boiling water for a short time. Are you really cooking out all of the fiber that's in oatmeal by preparing it this way? I haven't been eating oatmeal since I started eating raw, but I would love to find a way to incorporate it into my diet now.

Just soak the raw oats in water in the fridge overnight, rinse and put them in a food processor with some apples, honey or some sweetner, cinnamon and add raising if you want - it makes great oatmeal. You can warm it in the dehydrator if you like. I make it for my son but, then I do normally warm it lightly on the stove for him. I like it fine cold.

That sounds really good. Can I use any oats or do I need to buy a special kind of raw oats?

You want to use raw oat groats. I buy them in bulk at a local organic market. You usually cannot find them at a regular store. Whole Foods might have them. Any kind of processed oats are heated. I think even the steel cut oat groats are normally steamed.

I buy oat groats at Whole Foods. I haven't had oatmeal in a while ... I like adding a few walnuts just at the last second in the food processor ... gives it a bit of crunch.
Yep - gonna soak some groats tonight and have strawberry/banana oatmeal tomorrow! Thanks for starting this thread!

But what about gluten that oats contain? I've read it's very damaging for health.
