Hi,
I've been following a 95% raw food programme for 3.5 weeks and have only lost 3 pounds. I realize that weight is secondary to eating and living healthily, but such revelations do not alter one's pants size.
I am a 5'6 female, 150 pounds, hoping to release 20 pounds. I find myself craving nuts, and when I cut cut them out substantially (aside from what's in Larabars), I was craving Medjool dates (and ate far too many of them this evening, before exercising) and dried fruit.
In the morning, I typically have a fruit smoothie with greens; lunchtime/snacks/dinner mainly involve large salads. My teeth are a bit sensitive to the acid in the fruits.
What might I do differently to help me release?
Thanks!!
p.s. I've been reading these forums for the past month, and haven't been able to find somebody in a similar situation.

Go 100% and get out and move.

Hi Revvell,
Thanks for the advice! In reality, however, I am 100% (provided dried fruits still count) and have been since day 11 (I said 95% because I was eating dairy the first 11 days).
In terms of moving, it's a bit difficult, as I'm studying full-time-and-a-half for comprehensive exams. Nevertheless, I do 45min of intense cardio everyday, plus 15min of weights, twice a week. Would it help not to exercise, in order to reduce muscle mass?
Thanks!

Why would you want to do that? 15 minutes of weights twice a week isn't giving you enough muscle to even consider. Many here would love to be losing 1# a week. Cut out the dried fruits (and, check for preservatives such as sulphites before eating any more) and replace with fresh ~ in a smoothie if necessary.

in order to reduce muscle mass?
That would be counterproductive, because muscles burn fat and if you have less musles you burn less, guess!
I like dried tomatoes and nuts myself, 3-4 hands a day. So what? Then it takes a few more days too let the weight go. Hey, it took me years to get it on my body, so I just take my time....

You lost more than me when I first went raw! I didn't loose anything untill months into it. With that said, relax, listen to your body & try not to think about weight loss. Who knows what the inside of your body is doing! It may be taking all of the nutrients your giving it & rebuilding & healing....so rapid weight loss isn't it's main concern.

Sometimes when you start out your body goes into a healing mode and doesn't concern itself with weight loss. Give it time. It will happen.

not sure about here but I have seen this all over the boards
People want weight loss and want it FAST. It is the typical ol "diet" paradigm.
"Do this to get this in one week and you will be amazed."
Raw is a way of life, a journey and a process that takes its time. It works where it works in the body according to its own time and reason.
Being willing to not look at the scales nor for weight loss rather to look towards wellness and well being.
When one looks away from weight and puts the focus on loving oneself, life and raw and living foods, the rest, truly does, take care of itself.

ma'am - step away from the scale!:D
perspective: you've been raw less than one menstrual cycle!
on my journey i did lose a lot of weight quickly because i started with a fast and lots of saunas. from there my body just led me to raw. THEN i discovered all these ridiculously delish nut-based desserts, so i gained weight back.
at this point, i realize that it really is more important to get the greens, juices and smoothies in. your body will lead you to the best food if you let it, but it definitely takes time. and cellular re-structuring isn't something we can necessarily feel, so just have confidence that if you are doing the right things for your body, the changes will come.
enjoy the ride!:)

When I went raw a few years ago, I did not lose weight. I ate whatever I wanted to.
I went raw again a few weeks ago, this time being careful to not eat too much and not eat too many fats and I have lost 5 pounds in two weeks.

eat more greens and MORE FRUIT. it sounds like you're not getting enough calories from fruit, which is making you want to eat heavier foods like dried fruit and nuts. dried fruit can really mess with your teeth, so be careful. if you're trying to limit your nuts/fats, you need to eat a large volume of fruit. try having another green smoothie during the day, or eat whole fruit along with greens. and yes, patience is a virtue :) . i personally try to have 2 litres of green smoothie a day (sometimes more, sometimes less).
