I've been tossin' up the idea of doin' P90X for a while now & I was talkin to a friend last night who did it & he LOVED it! I'm totally inspired & I'm starting tomorrow. This should be interesting to see if I can tell any changes. I haven't done a program or worked out with a trainer since I've been raw so it will be cool to see what happens being raw & doing intense workouts.

Hey KatieP-
The women I see look phenomenal when they do P90X (I'm a massage therapist, so no cellulite hides on my table!) On the flip side, I've seen three identical shoulder injuries in men who started P90X. (Interestingly, the men were in really fantastic shape going into it - they just wanted to be in even better shape.)
But from the thousands of bodies I have seen, the women that look the best are the ones doing various types of yoga, long-term pilates, gyrotonics, p90X, and often it is the women who just walk religiously and are basically active and eat healthy are those who look great, too!
GOOD LUCK!!!!:D

Katie let me know how it works out for you. For now, I am excited to try out his 10 minute series because I like compounded exercises. Sorta intimidated by PX90. But I have ran across several guys in the gym who do it and only go to the gym for cardio (treadmill, etc.). Please keep us posted.

How's it going Katie?
It's goin good! I don't sweat a whole lot even when I work out hard, but especially when I lift & they're all sweating ALOT, but I just think my body's different. It had me worried for a few days thinking I wasn't working out hard enough!
It's hard for sure....especially the plyometric day....that was today! WHEW talk about a workout!
I just did 2 wks today. I can't tell a difference in my body, but eating raw may also play a factor in that. I eat alot of fruit so I don't know if my body will make any changes. I've added green smoothies & raw protein powder to my diet hoping that will help. I would LOVE to see changes especially eating alot of fruit. I'm kinda thinking the odds of my body composition changing will eating alot of fruit may be slim. But I'd much rather listen to my body & give it what it's craving even if raw protein is good. If my body wants fruit that's what I'll give it!
PRAY FOR CHANGES,,,I'd love to post pics & the end!

I don't really have weight to loose but I do need to tone up for sure. I could always try the lean series after. Who knows!!!!!

I did P90 (before P90X existed) barefoot and ended up with plantar fasciaitis (sp?) so I DO NOT recommend doing it barefoot!
Way to go Katie! Listening to your body and giving it what it asks for is definitely the way to go. I wasn't raw when I was doing P90 but I was watching calories and what I found really surprised me. One day I ended up sobbing on the floor! I then wrote down all of the food I ate and added up the calories and found that I wasn't eating enough! Very interested in the difference eating raw brings to the table, er, as it were, lol.
More power to you!

Sorry - I just saw this!
I think I was mainly eating huge salads & fruit....sometimes raw crackers....I know I probably ate an avocado everyday with my salad at the time too....it was summer when I was doing it, so I lean towards a lighter diet - just going with what my body wants.....I also do/did a protein smoothie every morning - sometimes I used hemp powder, or a raw protein called "raw power". I have no idea if it was "enough" for me - calorie wise, but I was content.
Hope this helps!
What have you been eating?

Great job!!

Honestly, I don't feel all that great! I've only had 3BM's in 5 days!!!!!! I added protein powder (raw) to my smoothies about 2x/ day so that's an extra maybe 20-40g's of protein & I think it's making me constipated. The few times I've gone, they've smelled & they aren't big & cleansing feeling like my other ones (excuse the graphic-ness). It's making me bloated! I'm gonna stop with the protein powder for a week & see if that makes a difference!
Do you think all the extra protein could cause constipation? I was just tryin' to get some extra protein but apparently my body doesn't do well with all that protein.
Anyone know what 15g of raw protein would be compared to SAD protein in grams?
lovenlife

According to some recent studies, we don't need as much protein as was once believed. Too much protein in your system will cause your body to leach calcium from your bones, reportedly. Dr. Brian Clement sites the study in his book Living Foods for Optimum Health.
I agree, it sounds like your body is giving you clear signs that it isn't liking what your putting in it.

I love being raw because my body tells me pretty quickly that it doesn't like something or needs a certain food. I felt like " should" take in more protein b/c that's what people do when they work hard......it's all different being raw!

Here's an update.....I ordered "Insanity" b/c I'm not getting the results & I think it's b/c it's pretty close to how I worked out before. Insanity seemed like a much more intense workout in about half the time, which is definetly more appealing. ALSO, I think I posted that I added raw protein powder to my diet for about a week then it messed with my system. Well about 1 wk without it & a good chiropractic & energy adjustment & I emptied OUT in the middle of the night last night till there was nothing left. I feel back to normal WOOHOO!!!!!

I have Insanity and love it! I did the 6 weeks of the program than stopped. I must say that I was on a SAD diet(I think that is the term) and didn't lose a pound but I gained great definition in my arms and back and my waist is a 3 pack. My cloths fit different.
Today is my first day totally raw and things are going fine so far. Being I have not been on any program in 3 weeks I will start back at it tomorrow. Trying to decide between Insanity or CharLeen Extreme. I am leaning toward CharLean Extreme because I can still ride my bicycle if I do that program. Insanity is wicked hard and just didn't have enough energy to ride my bicycle doing it, that is why I stopped.

Sorry, I wasn't your P90X buddy earlier on. It was just really interesting that you were doing this the same time I was doing it. I ordered it and then got my pull up bar put together. Then I read that you ordered it too. So I wanted to see what your true opinions were about P90X, as I went along. I was kind of bummed that you stopped, but then again you're a lot stronger than you thought you were! That is a good thing!! :) I can see how it would be too easy for someone who is already fit as a fiddle as Tony from P90X would say.
Awesome about moving along to Insanity!! I've checked out Insanity advertisement before. I plan on getting that next year, when I'm more confident about the shape that I'm in!
I'm on my day two into my 5th week now (over 30 days now!!), I gotta hand it to raw food for making this workout bearable!! So now as going along, I can see that I am getting more toned in my arms, abs, waist, calves, legs, hips, buttock, chest, and back, as I am getting stronger hands, wrists. ankles, feets, and knees. I can tell that when I complete this workout, I will be really toned and ready to wear a bikini!! And I will repeat the whole cycle again and again while I mix it up with my other exercises!! The pull up bar is a huge bonus for me, it really lifts and tones up the chest area!!
Anyways, thought I share and rooting you on for the Insanity DVD!! :D

Okay cool! :) In the middle of doing the fifth week. It's seems like doing the 4th week made it harder for me to get back into it when it came to the fifth week, because the fourth week was so mellow for exercising so that the body can recover. Here's my results so far after 30 days doing P90X. :) I'll be doing day two into six weeks tomorrow. So far, it's making me alot stronger. I'm happy with the results I'm getting so far.
I didn't take any pictures on day one :( before I started P90X. I'll be posting results in 60 days and in 90 days. :)
Just keep in mind that I've been on raw food for two years! Raw food really does work!!! The weight will just magically melt off, because the body is nourished and doesn't have to hang on to the weight for lack of nutrition! Plus, raw food will make exercising seems so much easier too!!
So now, I just want to just really tighten my skin and firm the muscles up. Like a body lift sort of a thing. I will continue to do this exercise for the long run!!!
I've seen some even greater results on you tube for those kept it going and going for more than 90 days!!

Very cool about Insanity! So will you two be posting any results as far as before and after pics? It'll be cool to see how the body shapes up on raw food!
I'm taking a break today!! Results so far from P90X is that I'm getting really flexible, i don't feel stiff anymore, my joints are a lot more mobile and stronger, my stomach is really starting to get tighter, I feel like I have springs on my feets now, my outter thigh is really starting to pull in and shaping up nice, my arms are getting more toned, I'm waking up more earlier in the morning, waist is looking more curvy, back feels stronger for much better posture, my skin is getting tighter, and my body is feeling younger and younger the more I exercise!! And raw food really makes me feel strong physcially and helps me to recover really fast!!! :) Raw food and exercises really go well together!! It's feels like I can be energetic and playful like a kid again!!! Yay!!!
So tomorrow will be day one into my seventh week!! So at the end of the eight week, I'll be posting some pics!! Can't wait!!
Exercise with love!!! :)

I'll post pics @ the end if I can tell a difference. To be honest I can't tell in my body. I feel AMAZING though. I have great energy & absolutely love it. But I feel a little off cause my BM's are like hardly any which I'm sure is affecting my stomach & bloating. Hopefully when that gets back to normal my body will be able to make any changes it wants to.

WHOA RAW, way to go!!!!
Sounds like your really enjoying all the benefits! Keep it up!
Insanity is AWESOME! I took 2 days off cause I was out of town, so I'll end it 2 days after the normal 60 days. I really like it. I love the feeling of my lungs opening up when I work out! I can tell my health has improved cardio wise. I can't tell a difference physically yet. I'm about 2 & 1/2 wks into it, but I'm also on my period so I'm super bloated & everything else that comes along with it. Honestly, sometimes I'm skeptical if my body will make any changes b/c it tends to be stubborn. I just figure it will make changes when it wants to. It may still have some healing to do (I used to have alot of hormone issues before going raw).
But I'm always open to trying new workouts & seeing if my body will make changes. I know one day it will :)

Insanity is insane...drills, jumps, squats, running in place and much much more. The other days I was doing Insanity and didn't have a scraf or headband on. I was sweating so bad that it got in my eyes and I had to stop for a minute. I am just able to get thru the 10 minute warm up without stopping. Still no changes, my clothes fit the same. Starting Monday I am adding 1/2 hr of weights.

Let me know if that helps you!
I emailed beach body & told them I wasn't getting results, now I'm waiting to see if they have any suggestions. As much as I want results, I also understand my body will make changes when it wants to, so I don't really get discouraged per say, I just think it would be awesome to work really hard for something & get the benefits that most people do.

I've done 1 complete round of insanity. I also added P90X resistance workouts 3 times a week.
The first month of insanity is supposed to get your body aclimated to working out with high intensity. You may get some results, lose a few pounds or inches. You may even gain weight as what happened with me. When you start those month 2 workouts look out! They are vicious and make the month 1 workouts seem like warm ups. The last week of 2 of the month 2 work outs is usually were people start seeing/measuring results. Apparently the last phase of p90x is when people see results as well.
From what the nutrition part of the program state as well as the team beach body forum states as well as others who have struggles and experimented is that calories play a huge part in gaining results. To little and your body will eat your muscles up a bit and do some other things i can't remember. To much and you'll gain weight. The problem with the raw food thing is that in order to eat a bunch of calories we'd had to eat about 5 gallons of food every 5 minutes. These clowns also say to not eat to much fruit because of the sugar  So naturally because of that I eat even more fruit and feel a bit better and can push harder in the workouts.
Right now i'm on a recovery week. Next week i'll be in insanity month 2 (my second round) and p90x phase 3 (doubles.) So far i've managed to gain 15 lbs since i started insanity in march. My clothes still fit the same. Although yesterday I noticed I had to sinch my belt down 1 hole size so maybe i'm loosing some fat. My legs are looking pretty defined, especially my quads. I have something that looks like a tricept. BUT i still have my love handles and some flab in the middle. Another round or 2 should do the trick. I didn't get into this and expect to get instant results so i'm committed for the long haul.
For those doing these workouts my suggestion would be to stick it out and try not to miss any workouts. These programs take some time so give the programs time so they can do what they are designed to do.

Chingon77 Thanks for the encouragement! I don't think I followed you when you said @ what phase people usually get results?
What is your diet like while doing insanity?
Most people see results i.e.. weight loss, inches loss, muscle definition towards the end of the second month of insanity becuase the intensity of those workouts are through the roof. It makes the first month feel like a warm up. If you thought the first month work outs kick your butt wait till the second month. Fun stuff. Phase 3 of P90x is were most folks see the weight, inches loss muscle tone results as well. I guess there are some people like me who suck at burning off the excess fat and have to do a few rounds of these excersise programs to get crazy results.
My diet.... Well its kind of sucked because according to the nutrition section of the program i'm under eating by to much which affects results. Something about the body eating up muscle for fuel because you don't have the calories needed to fuel your body during the day. I'm thinking thats a bit bogus though and probably based of the old food pyramid thing. I haven't researched it yet.
The past week i'd eat about 2 fruit smoohies a day that i made with a basket of strawberries and 1 or 2 bananas (after workouts.) Snack on some apples and almond butter, eat some almonds, steel cut oats (mainly to up my calories even though its not raw) and other non raw things which was very small. Just trying out the calorie thing last week and eating a few 300-400 calorie meals a day. I'm not full blown raw at the moment. But i've doubled up on my fruit servings and i think its giving more energy to bust through the work outs harder. So it looks like i'm making my way to becoming full blown raw. Actually more of a fruitarian i guess. Screw the greens, that stuff is over rated, tastes lame and only good for scrubbing down dirty intestines..... haha. Fruit is like the only food in the planet you don't have to mess with to make it taste good, it comes like that. Unlike greens....I'm just saying haha.
Keep us updated and i'll try to do the same. I did yoga x today. man that was rough and a heck of a workout. I did notice I had to sinch up my belt 1 hole smaller yesterday and my pants were slightly looser. So maybe i'm finally burning some inches. Might have had something to do with doubling up my fruit portions last week and eating a few times a day instead once a day.

Hey, just wanted to update that I had to put my eightth week on hold till this weekend. I'm in the process of moving! it's all good!! So I'll be posting pics the following weekend after this weekend!! Anyways!! It's always better to get back on track, then to never get back on track!!! :D
Interesting post!! I do agree with the fact that to get results is to stick with it like raw food!! :p
I like greens, it really help me to heal and recover really fast!! I have an article about how greens is really healing for the body!! So yeah, greens are important!!
Give "Insanity" workout a chance, I do agree that two week is not enough time to see results. i say more like a month or two....

Your post sounds alot like me. It takes alot for my body to burn excess fat too, but I also know it will come with time. We both seem like we aren't too worried about our food intake vs. what "they" say to eat, we just do our own thing.
So when you say you go through a couple rounds of a program do you mean you finish it then start all over again?
Do you mind me asking your stats? M/F? age? height?
WHOA-RAW..thanks again for the encouragement. I know things take time but when people are like "I saw IMMEDIATE results" I start wondering if there's something else I need to be doing, or I think, it's the nutrition portion of it all.

Yes when i say a round a mean completing the program and starting all over again.

From Brendan Brazier - vegan triathlete
This makes a large batch, which I divide into smaller containers – 3 or 4 usually. It freezes well also.
2 Bananas
1/2 cup soaked Almonds
1/4 cup ground Flaxseed
1/4 cup Hemp Protein (Raw, Organic)
1/4 cup Carob Powder
2 tsp ground Rooibos (I treat this as an optional ingredient)
1 tsp Lemon Juice
1/4 tsp Sea Salt (I use Himalayan Salt)
I also add 4 tsp Maca and 4 tsp Spirulina

Did yoga x this morning. Thats my 3rd attempt at it. DAMN! I'm getting better at it but its a butt kicker. I can't even get close to doing the crane or the wheel. Everything else i'm doing ok on. Almost did a pushup on every one of the poses in the first 45minutes which is a big accomplishment when compared to only doing a few the second time i did the yoga x. I like how all the stretching can turn me into a sweaty bastard.
I'm reworking my diet right now. 5-6 meals a day is pretty bad. Makes me feel like crap and i'm sluggish all day and my gut never gets a break. Not good as my insides feel overworked. I'm going to fast during the day and pig out on fruits for dinner and call it a night. I do/feel a lot better during the day when i don't eat. I just have to retrain my eating habits which is always fun to do. Especially when i'm starving throughout the day. Nothing a little bit a fresh squeeze OJ can't fix though.

I need help. I KNOW this is not a calorie forum & it's something I never really thought about after being raw, HOWEVER I'm just wondering if I'm getting enough to eat w/ my activity level b/c I haven't seen any changes since doing 4wks of Insanity. My sister thought maybe I'm not getting enough nutrients to support any muscle toning.
Here's a typical day: (by the way I'm 27 f/5'4"/ maybe weigh around <115)
I do Insanity & sometimes roller blade or do something else but not very often
Breakfast: 2-2 & 1/2 bananas a little spirulina/ maca/ & kelp powder & sometimes 1/4 avo
made w/ water & small handful of grapes
Lunch: salad w/ sprouts/ brussel sprouts/ tomato/ cucumber/ & 1/2 avo w/ a little olive oil dressing, sometimes I make guac & just use that as a dressing, I also usually have a small bowl of fruit. If it's a bigger salad I have carrots & no fruit
Dinner: Usually another smoothie/ If I had avo in the a.m. I don't have it in the p.m.
Snacks: almost always are grapes. I eat alot of grapes.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I think my sister might be onto something. I just don't wanna gain fat, although I don't think that would be an issue if all the nutrients would support muscle. I'm thinking about adding some seeds & flax b/c those both are nutrient dense & add protein.
ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE APPRECIATED :) :)

Like I said earlier most folks don't see physical changes until the 2 month of insanity. Some won't see any until their 2nd round. I just started my second month of round 2 today. Man it was just as brutal as it was the first time I did it.
Look at it like this. With each week you did the workout did you find yourself able to push harder, did the workouts become less difficult, were you able to complete more of the workouts in your last week then you did in your first week? If so then you quite indeed gained some results. Its called strength and endurance. You have to give the program a chance, be patient and let it do what it does.
I haven't seen the commercials for this program but i bet they show people getting shredded in 60 days. Some people do some don't. I don't believe those kind of pictures much either. I once got a call from an agency who wanted me to model for there herbal product. They were going to take my pictures, stick in photo shop and turn me into a fat ass and use my now picture to show how magical their crap was.
What i'm saying is to 'be patient.' Do your best and What????? haha.
Not sure what I can say about the nutrition. I'm still tweaking with it. 5-6 meals a day was overkill for me and i think its to hard on the body as it never gets a break in digestion and overworks the organs. I'm starting to fast during the day and have a big meal for dinner and call it a day. I tried it today but i screwed up and pigged out on a bag of trader joes 'just mangos', 2 apples with nut butter. Tomorrow is a new day though. I find eating during the day really makes me sluggish, raw or not, less energized and i feel flabby. I feel a lot better when i don't eat in the day. So for now i'm going to fast during the day (16-18 hours, maybe slip in some juice post workouts) and chow down at night. I'll let you know how that works out.
I know none of this is probably what you want to hear but i'm just sharing my experience. I also find nutrition advice from the fitness word it complete crap. Especially since there putting crap in there mouth all day long and pushing old FDA propaganda. But if you feel like your body needs to eat more I say try it out for a couple of weeks and see what happens.

Thanks Chingon77 for responding. I AM trying to eat more w/o feeling full, just adding more nutrient dense foods to see if that makes a difference. I guess it really is all trial & error. I also agree with you in taking advice from SAD eaters, especially when they push processed foods!
I always laugh when I hear about diets that allow cookies & cakes & pizza....I'm like "really?, that's ligit" haha!
Keep me posted on how you do. I'll do the same. I'm thinking of doing another round when I'm done with my sister.

06-22-2010, 10:04 AM
Katie- One thing to keep in mind is that with women it takes a bit longer to get results. It has something to do with estrogen. So think of 60 days of insanity as actually having to 120 days. Its a little bit they forget to put in the advertisements. I say do another round. The 2nd time around you'll kick some serious booty and tighten yours up as well. :D
What would be considered "dense" foods?
keep us posted on what you figure out with your diet. Whether it works or doesn't work.
Katie P
06-22-2010, 10:28 AM
I hope I tighten up my booty & get one LOL!!!! (my mom said she's gonna buy me padded underwear hahaha)
What I consider nutrient dense foods that I added are ground flax, & seeds. I opted for seeds cause I think my body digests them better than nuts & I know my body really likes flax, I just haven't had it in a while. It provides alot of fiber & protein so I figure it's a good combination. Before when I added protein powder my body rejected that...I'm assuming b/c it didn't give me all the fiber. I did add 1/2 scoop of protein powder too though.
I don't know if I said this before, but I was in shape before I started Insanity. I've always had trainers or pushed myself @ the gym with plyometric workouts, I've trained for 2 half marathons & have always lifted weights, so I'm thinking that might make a difference in my results cause my body is used to being pushed....just a thought :)
I laughed @ your story about a before & after shot for something that seems they wouldn't alter any pics...too funny!

whoa-raw- My research indicates nobody really knows if its ok to workout while fasting. So figured I find out for myself.
This morning i woke up groggy, slugish and a little stiff. I'm thinking that last night i had a gig at some stupid medical marijauna club and the 2nd hand smoke made me feel funny. I don't smoke either, never have.
I tried to do insanity max plyo this morning and just didn't have it in me to do the warmup. So i decided to do something easier like Kenpo X+. Its around 30 minutes. Its the first time i've done it and it would have been a walk in the park if i didn't feel so bleh. I still finished because i wanted to get something in today.

Ta da!! Here's the recovery pudding that Revdrcyn made earlier on in the thread and post it. I want to make the pudding so I'll be having some tomorrow! I could take a picture when I'm eating it. Revdrcyn, thanks again for the recipe for the pudding!!
Did Yoga X!! Needed it really bad, helps me to mellow out a lot!!
From Brendan Brazier - vegan triathlete
This makes a large batch, which I divide into smaller containers – 3 or 4 usually. It freezes well also.
2 Bananas
1/2 cup soaked Almonds
1/4 cup ground Flaxseed
1/4 cup Hemp Protein (Raw, Organic)
1/4 cup Carob Powder
2 tsp ground Rooibos (I treat this as an optional ingredient)
1 tsp Lemon Juice
1/4 tsp Sea Salt (I use Himalayan Salt)
I also add 4 tsp Maca and 4 tsp Spirulina
Here’s a link to Brendan’s website:

Hey ladies..Katie I went back to P90X. I was just not getting what I needed, cardio was great but I needed the weight training. As I said before I got great results when I did it in 2007. So I am going back to I know what works. The scale or measurements didn't move with Insanity. I have great endurance now. In the 2 weeks that I continued Insanity and added weight training I dropped 5lbs.

I tossed in an extra workout this evening. I did cardio X. I did that because i felt like i didn't get much out of my morning work out since i felt like crap. Seriously, after doing a round and a half of insanity Cardio X and kenpo are a complete joke. I haven't done the psychometrics video but i bet its a walk in the park as well. I kind of like not having to jump around like a mad man for an hour like i do in insanity though. Its giving my bones a break. Besides, i'm tired of feeling my fat jiggle around. haha.
Yoga X is my favorite video so far. I've yet to complete the entire video though.

I made the pudding last night to have today and it didn't turn out green or slimy.... It turned out brown and dry like a bread dough. And that's what I thought it tasted like! :D So in turn I thought it tasted a lot like the the bread I used to eat before I ate raw food as a lifestyle.
So I put it in the dehydrator last night. Today, I'm eating it right now for a sandwich!! It's really good!
It's a taste between wheat and dark rye bread to me. That's my opinion on it . So this will be among many sandwiches I'll be making in the future, plus it dehydrates really fast, not a lot of wet products in it!!
Here are some pics! :)
(see how I ate most of it before it made it to be sandwiches!! Ooopps!!)

I did Legs, Back and Ab Ripper X!!! :)
I feel that my booty and my hamstrings are being left out in the workout so I'm going to do the same thing like how Tony have the 10 min of Ab Ripper X at the end of every other workout. I'll be adding on 10 minutes pilates for my booty and hamstrings after every other workout that Ab Ripper isn't included in!! There are some great pilate moves for the booty from the Erin Huggins"s Channel on YouTube. Check it out. So I will be be doing some of that along with P90X!! :D

Ok. Make sure you chime in on how the 2 month workout made you cry on your first day. Here's a tip. Don't do the fit test and max interval plyo on the same day because YOU WILL DIE!
Did Stretch X today. I even managed to do 1 pull up which is a huge achievement.
After stopping the bogus overeating 5 times a day as the bogus nutrition world markets at people and fasting for 4 days straight I've managed to loose 15 lbs in 10 days. Not bad. I'm still making strength gains as well i.e. my first ever pull up. Thats 15lbs less I have to pull and push around.

The "Recovery" Sandwich was pretty amazing!! I felt really good today from eating the recovery ingredients that was in it!! Thanks Revdrcyn, I found the raw bread I was looking for which was really unexpected! I may need to add more bananas to make it be more pudding-like in the future.
Here's what I put in the mix for the sandwich:
avocado, red onions, mushrooms, sweet baby tomatoes, sea salt, cumin spice, and top the mix with alfalfa sprouts.
And as far as the Brazil Butt Lift goes, I'm really skeptical of it.... Thanks for the tip though! :)

Just a note here, I came here to join this thread with a positive attitude to workout.
I choose to exercise with love and respect for my body along with a positive mentality.
Read my story in the before and after thread, Whoa-Raw's healing Story. And I believe that good results and wellness stems from a positive attitude besides living a raw food lifestyle.

I don't think it's really cool to joke about, "Almost or gonna die from working out sort of a thing and ha ha about that!"
Especially, that I had a near death experience two years ago and how raw food had pretty much bought me back to good health and all!! Again, if you want to know more, read my story in before and after thread, Whoa-Raw's Healing Story. This will go into details about that.
So please be considerate of that, since I'm participating in this thread as well.
I would appreciate it very much, thanks!!!

I'll just pretty much give you an good idea of what I like to eat overall for the most part. I eat alot of bananas, apples, oranges. Those are my main fruits that I always have and the other fruits are there when I run out of my main fruits. Fruit smoothies maybe like 2 or three times a week. I eat a pretty good amount of nuts and seeds everyday. Sunflower seeds are my favorite!! Avocados is almost a daily thing for me.. Salads and sprouts I have maybe daily, every other day. or two. Coconut oil or olive oil are always in my dressings along with lemon. Kale is my main greens when I have my greens along with celery and green peppers. Tomatoes is something that I always get enough of!! I'm still trying to find a green smoothie that I can drink for the most part!! I find that I like parsley in my green smoothies. Once I find my groovy green smoothie, I'll be making it more often. I don't really juice that much. If I do, it's celery/apple or carrots/apple are my favorite!! I eat a lot of raisins and dates as well! I really do keep it simple for the most part and make a fancy raw dish here and there. :) Hope that helps!!

The nice thing about P90X, is that Tony is really nice. He lets everyone go at their own pace and do what they can. As long as they did their best is all that matters to him.
I couldn't even keep up with him at all in the Ab Ripper in the beginning, barely could do any pull-ups, and I really went at my own pace when I went along with each DVD for awhile till I got better and better. Now, I'm doing a whole lot better than I did in the beginning!!

When I did a lot of research, this stood out to me the most. When the body is getting plenty of healthy raw fat and not being starved of it, it will constantly let fat in the body go, keep the burn going, not be persistent to hang on to it, and trust the fact that it will get more healthy raw fat in the future. Plus we're getting plenty of nutrients from other raw food as well, the body doesn't feel the need to hang onto fat in the body, since the body is not deprived of nutrients, so when the body is nourished with what it needs, the body is no longer in a desperate mode to hang on to whatever the body has left. I thought that made sense to me so I just went with that.
And another thought here, throughout time of reading the RFT. I've read that a few men had trouble gaining back what they once had before which was muscular-wise, no matter how much raw they ate, till they started working out with weights. They figured to get the weight back, they must workout with weights. They did gain muscles from working out with weights. Do a search on here. it's around in here somewhere. ;)

I have a quick question for you all - sorry if this was answered in the past in this thread, I just don't have time to read through it all!
Is it possible to do the P90X without the pull up bar? There are several reasons (finances/I don't like in a place I can attach things, and don't want to risk damaging the walls/door frame either) I don't want to get it right now . . . I'm thinking I can afford the program, just not that additional expense. I do have several different strengths of resistance bands though . . . would that be okay?
And do you need a multitude of weights for P90X? I thought I read that somewhere . . . I'll have to look into how much that would cost also.
Thanks!

Gossy, I'm pretty sure your gonna need it. I suggest checkin' on Craigslist to see if you can get one. That's an option

Hi Gossy! :)
As far as the pull up bar goes, Tony shows a different way of doing it with bands. Have a sturdy bar to wrap the bands around in closets or showers to pull down on these bands to mimic the the motions of pulling up.
As far as the weights go, you can still use the same band and create a smaller or bigger loops on the floor to stand on with one of your feet to create more or less resistance for each move. Tony will show you how to do this as well.
If you really want to get weights, I just use the one that is heavy enough and yet light enough that is doable. I'm using a 10 lb right now this whole time and use the band for lighter resistance for some of the moves. Eventually, I will have to get a 12 lb at some point, probably ready for it when I gonna aim for 120 days of P90X.
The pull up bar is great. I don't use screws of any kind to attach it to the wall. It is an option though to do so!! Anyways, I love it!!

Is it possible to do the P90X without the pull up bar?
Thanks!
Gossy,
If you have bands and a high place from which to hang them you don't necessarily need the chin-up bar.

OOooo Bububububaaabayyy!! Plyometrics X, yes!!!! I'm always reminded that Kenpo X and Plyometric X does work out my booty good!! When I'm gonna get it through my mind that it works out the booty just as good on every other body parts as well!!? How about comprehending it now!! :D Especially now that I've seen improvements in the back of my leg from the pics of 60 days!
Good Revdrcyn, nice to see you keeping it up!! Very very cool!!
Yeah Gossy, you don't need the pull up bar. Hope to see you on here soon! :p
I've just always wanted to be really good at pull ups when I was a child, so I'm fulfilling one of my childhood dreams!! ;)

I was actually thinking yesterday about how I might be able to rig something up in the basement. Not the cleanest place . . . so I wouldn't want to work out down there, but there are exposed and very sturdy beams down there I could do pull ups on, or hang a bar from or something. Plus, my arms are so weak, just doing weights and push ups and whatnot would be a huge improvement for now, until I figure out a way to rig up a pull up system.
So I'm seriously thinking when I get paid this week . . . might have to pick this system up and give it a whirl!

Did Arms, Shoulders, and Ab Ripper X today. Really had to push myself, felt really tired before and felt glad I did it afterward. Took some chlorella yesterday and felt some detox symptoms today!! Really looking forward to doing Yoga X tomorrow, always makes me feel like I'm floating on clouds afterwards! :)
Yo Gossy, here's pics of what I do with my pull up bar. I put it up and take it down.

This just give you an idea of what I'm doing. There are screws and etc. to come with it to attach it very securely to the wall. I'm lightweight and will not be going super crazy on it like some people would when doing pull- ups that would cause some kind of movement for the pull up bar to move around.
Yeah, the workout is great on it's own with bands. When I was traveling, I used the bands wrapped around a closet bar and I thought I got a really good workout from the bands. Bands are great to start out with and can always get the pull-up bar later, if not sure about it. ;)

Chill out on the fats and eat more fruit. Its been working pretty good for me so far. I'm feeling better without chowing down on the fats. Within the past few days of gorging on fruit i can already feeling myself leaning down pretty quick. I noticed I dropped 1 pant size today. You'd have to eat a ridiculous amount of fruits to chunk up. It doesn't take much nuts, avocados to get beefier. Raw or not, to much fat packs on the fat. I speak from personal experience on nut/avocado binging.

Can you get lean with eating fruits though? I wanted more calories, so do you suggest more fruit? What about dates?
I think what you're saying might be the case for me too. I guess the only way to find out is to take out the nuts & see what happens. I know from the past my body holds on to weight when I eat nuts I just thought it would be different now that I'm working out pretty hard....maybe not so much!
I think I'll still stick with my flax seeds & avo like I did before but back off the nuts.

Alissa does point out in her first book is to take it easy on the nuts when losing weight and yet at same time don't deprive yourself or be strict of whatever that is raw so that you don't set yourself up to eat something that is not raw. Especially when the body may need certain kinds of nutrition. After being raw for some time, it's easy to listen to what the body wants.
Everybody's different when it comes to raw food. Just listen to what the body wants.
It's always something different of what may be my main food for the day. Yesterday was cherries for me, the day before was dates, and the day before that was bananas, and the day before that was lots of kale.... See what I mean.
The body is always constantly seeking out for certain kinds of raw nutrition.
I am trying to bulk up some muscles and be lean at the same time.
I don't soak my nuts and seeds unless I'm sprouting them or using them in fancy raw dishes. According to everyone when it comes to raw food, it needs to be soaked and rinse well to get rid of the enzyme inhibitors. That is the difference between me and another raw foodist when it comes to eating nuts and seeds. I may or may not get around into getting the habit of soaking nuts and seeds before I eat em...
Finishing up week 9 of P90X!!! Looking forward to week 10!! :D

From what I've read and the photos i've seen of those on a high fruit diet it will get you lean and mean. I'm on my 7 day of this fruit binge and each day I feel a bit more able to push myself harder each workout. Except this morning, i got 3 hours to sleep, woke up at 4am, drug my butt to the produce district downtown, came back and tried to do some yoga. I did about 45 minutes but didn't finish because i wasn't well rested. I'll have to sneak it in again later today, probably a max recovery instead.
Have you ever had a fresh nut? The almond tree I have produces some tasty nuts. There very moist and real tasty. The crap nuts we get at stores that claim to be raw most likely are not raw. Nuts are only in season for a short period of time when that happens then thats probably the only time of year we should eat them. The reason folks on the raw food diet always binge on nuts/fats is because they aren't getting enough calories in their diet so there body craves the foods higher in fats that are caloric dense. Then that catapults raw fooders into a high fat diet most of the time. Most raw food dishes are comprised of nuts/seeds/avocados and its all just plain fat.And from my personal experience of being a raw foodist the high fat diet is pretty bad and put me in an unhealthy state. Its why raw foodist feel energized for a short period of time during our transition phase and then peter out because we under eat. Most becoming anorexic and not ever knowing it. High fat raw really is no different then the SAD high fat diet. Just because its raw doesn't mean were automatically eating healthy. Thats a major pitfall with the raw movement, thinking that if its raw then its ok.
So if your craving some nuts/fats just eat some more fruit. Have half an avocado a day if you must. Basically go on a low fat raw food diet and you'll notice the difference pretty quickly.
After my yoga routine failure this morning I put 10 bananas in my belly. I'll probably eat another 10 for lunch, a bunch of mangos and some cherries. At the end of the day i'll probably eat around 3000 calories of mostly fruity sugary goodness.

Interesting. I've had phenomenal energy since I've added more calories to my diet, however I don't think it's turned into muscle. So let me get this straight.....you think my body needs more calories & nutrients, just not through nuts but through fruits? You could be on to something. It seems harder for me to get more "calories" or nutrients through fruit b/c I get fuller faster, so I was hoping the fat would bypass that
You also brought up an interesting point about us being anorexic & not knowing it. I totally think that was me. Maybe my body is loving all the energy I'm giving it but it might prefer it from fruit rather than fat.
What is your take on dried fruits? I had 2 dates with my banana smoothie. That might be a way for me to increase my calories without getting full.

Katie- For the record i'm not a body builder fitness expert or nutritionist guru. I just know what doesn't work for me from my personal experience. I don't know what works either but so far this high fruit low fat diet seems to be working out. Its only been a week but i have noticed a bit more energy during the workouts and my pants fit me bigger. So hopefully thats the fat being melted off. I also feel a bit lighter and have a bit more bounce in my legs when i'm jumping around. My legs don't feel weighed down. My strength is still increasing and i'm getting better at P90X/Insanity. Well expcept for the level 3 drills.:o
Katie download this program.
http://spaz.ca/cronometer/
Its a fun little program that tracks your calories, vitamins, minerals e.t.c. for what you are eating for the day. That way you have an idea if your putting enough calories in your belly. Today i've had 14 bananas and 4 mangos. I'm at a little over 2000 calories and have already exceeded the normal RDA nutritional needs for humans. Its pretty cool to see how much of anything your getting or lacking. Eating this amount of fruit is pumps massive amounts of nutrients in the body. Pretty cool stuff. Can't weight to see how i'll feel in a months time.
Yes its pretty tough eating a lot of fruits. This morning i ate a 10 banana smoothie. It took a while to get it all down but i did it. That alone was 1200 calories and a hell of lot of vitamins and minerals. I'm finding smoothies make it easier to fill the belly up with natures nutrients. Your going to get full, thats ok don't worry about it. I'm starting to sort of getting used to eating lots of sugary yummyness. You'll feel full for a short period of time being that fruits are mainly comprised of water. You won't feel heavy either.
I'm not sure about dried fruits. I know those on the 80/10/10 diet use dates to pack in some calories but not the dried fruits. They make something called datorade. 15-20 dates blended with water, supposed to be good for after workouts and packed with calories. I haven't tried it yet. Dried fruits also stick to your teeth so you must brush them after you eat. I'd rather have a juicy mango (instant energy) then the dried kind. I found that dried fruits and nuts were really packing fat onto my body. Therefore i'm not doing dried fruits anymore. I think there good in a pinch on a long hike or a survival food. But for daily eating ehhh. Thats my experience though. So out of the 2 i say dates aren't to bad. Just make sure there juicy and not the dried up turd kind. And brush your teeth.
I say you eat when your hungry. Especially after workouts. And when your hungry chow down on some fruits until your full. And use CRON-o-Meter to track your calories/nutrition. Bodybuilders do all kinds of things, not sure I would follow anything they do being that i'm not trying to be a body builder. Just trying to be fit and make my love handle disappear.

Thanks so much!
I'm gonna try & chow down on some fruits for sure!
The list has some on it that are me, well, was me up until a few weeks ago. The thinness, intolerance to cold...those things, not the skipping meals, not wanting to eat in public ones.
So I did an energy test tonight. If you haven't done this you might wanna try it, it's pretty cool. To see if your body is wanting a certain food, hold it up against it & see if your body leans forward or away. That will let you know if your body wants it. I held every nut that we had & seed (except flaxseed-which it wanted) & it went away from all of them & avacado & dates. Interesting. But it definetly wanted fruits!!!!
So there lies my answer I guess. Fruits it is! & greens & flaxseed. I'm gonna pump in all sugary yummyness :)
Thanks again for all your help/ advice/ personal testimonies! I know we all give advice based on what works for our own individual bodies, it just seems that alot of what you say reminds me of me :) so that's why I ask you alot of questions.
Thanks.....& I'll try out that cronometer!
p.s. I already feel lighter today having backed off of all my nuts & seeds!

make sure you don't combine the seeds/nuts with any of the fruits. That screws up digestion as one digest quickly (fruits) and the other takes forever (nuts.) I really don't think you need flax seeds if you eat enough fruits. I always found those little things pretty worthless because they don't really digest. They do make some tasty fattening crackers though.
Never heard of that energy test. I know when I see fruits from a distance that I naturally gravitate towards it if my body wants it. I think its the color that gets my brain stimulated and tells it YUMMYNESS!!!
Keep me posted on your fruit intake so we can compare notes.
Ok back to chugging down a 2 banana, 1 mango, 4 peaches smoothie. Delish. Oh yea i tried working out twice today and failed. I took a nap and felt better and did pure cardio. Piece of cake. Damn lack of sleep really screwed up my workouts today.

Hi!!!!
I do feel alot better...thanks :)
Insanity is still kickin' my boot-ay! I love it! I haven't gotten any results but I think it's because I wasn't giving my body enough food to build so I'm hoping eating alot of fruit will help.
I tried hemp powder in the past, it tasted good, but I don't think my body really cares for protein powder of any kind, they tend to mess with my bm's to where I don't go that often. ON THE OTHER HAND, watermelon & cherries are helping so I've upped them while I feel the need to give my colon a nice cleanse due to my lack of going with the protein powder.
I would LOVE to post pics, but probably won't since I have had no changes, but maybe one day my body will change & I will :)

After my workout i usually chug about 10-12 banana smoothie. I stopped messing with those magical powders years ago. I found them to be pretty useless. Especially maca, I always though that stuff was dirt. Not bashing your choices either. I just have a problem when refined processed products that claim magical life altering experiences get labeled as being raw when they are not. So proud of everyone :)
I just learned that my body isn't digesting fats & proteins....well I knew that but I was talking to my sister (she's a homeopathic/ holistic Chiropractor) & she was talking about enzymes & thinks the reason why I can't seem to make changes in my body is b/c the fat & protein isn't being converted into muscle!!!!! that's BIG NEWS!!! I'm very excited. It totally makes sense.
She's gonna order some protein/ fat specific enzymes to see if that would help. It explains why I always feel like crap after I eat them lol
I have 2 wks of Insanity after this week! I'm actually gonna stop it on Sunday. I'm going camping next week & just wanna break of all the pounding & jumping. I absolutely LOVE Insanity but I'm gonna stop it & try it again after a few months & get these enzymes in my body. Hopefully THEN it will make changes :)
I'm gonna enjoy rollerblading/ hiking/ walking/ biking & all that good stuff. Then in a couple weeks I'll probably head back to the gym & do weights pretty hard ( I love lifting!)
Then it will be InSaNitY time again :)
Keep it up guys!!!!

Katie-
Those digestion issues your having is pretty common in the raw food world. Reason being is that we get propaganda from gurus looking to make a quick buck telling us if something is raw we can eat it. Then they tell us crap like you need to supplement so you have to buy our magical chocolatemacalina fairy dust and you won't spontaneously explode. This is why you get raw folks who end up eating a high fat diet on nuts that for the most part aren't raw. The body doesn't require much fat at all, same goes for protein. The issue is that being on a raw diet for most folks usually becomes a calorie deficient issue. (refer back to that anorexia list i posted.) And the most calories consumed come from nut meals. Fats take a while for the gut to digest, around 4 hours or so. Fruits digest pretty darn quick. So when you mix the 2 in a meal its nothing but trouble because the food will ferment, stuff won't get digested completely and you end up poisoning yourself by creating a acidic toxic environment. Raw food recopies are notorious for bad food combinations which in turn is pretty unhealthy.
Ideally the best way to eat would be mono meals. Do this and your digestive issues will go away and you won't need any magical enzyme pills. I've been doing this for about 2 weeks with eating large quantities of fruit and it has made all the difference in my digestion as well as energy levels.
So what i'm trying to tell you is i've been there done that. I've experimented with the raw food movement new age crap for about 5 years and I only felt good for a short period. After the first year i didn't feel to hot. This is something that gets hushed quite a bit in the raw food community, especially when we think eating raw foods entitles us to be healthy. The best way to get that health we strive for is to eat enough calories and stop mixing foods that shouldn't be mixed. And because of that mindset people won't take a step back and say 'wait a minute, we need to rethink how and in what fashion we are consuming these raw foods. And of course your gurus won't say anything because their to busy pimping out there magical dirt formulas and making $$$.
Like i've said, eat some more fruit. I'm talking about a lot of fruit. That makes a huge difference.
have fun on your trip.
Katie P

Thanks Chingon77. I am eating alot more fruit, trying to get more calories that way. It's hard b/c it fills me up, but then I'll be hungry like 2hours later. It also kinda freaks me out to be honest b/c when I increased cals from fat & nuts I got bloated & gained a little (not much) but I just don't want that to happen from fruit which in my head I know it won't. It's just a mind thing.
My sister doesn't think I'm digesting my proteins at all...being from fruit & veggies either. I'm gonna try the enzymes & see if it helps, if it doesn't I'll go off of them. I do think I do better with mono meals. Those elaborate dishes don't sit well with me, the few that I've had :)
Thanks again for all your advice/ wisdom/ knowledge & everything else!

Please do if you do!!
Insanity looks like a really good workout to get really fit in the way the body feels. Plus I bet it's really good for the lymph system because of all the sweating going on!! Katie loves it, because she just loves to sweat, huh Katie? Yep! :D

12 weeks of p90x/insanity hybrid done.
Results.............Still jiggly everywere but i am stronger in all aspects so thats good.
I'm going to do another round of the this nonsense. This time i'm going to lift a lot heavier. Not sure if i'm going to do the recovery week. I slacked big time this week on all workouts so its as if i already took a recovery week. I slacked off because i got bored with the workouts.

hello again, I'm actually going to finish the second month, yesterday I did cardio conditioning, and I'm missing the last week, I got tired more than at other times as it took four days without sport and that night I slept little. I Have Not seen much result in my body because i eat sad food, fried (I'm now eating better), and I'm days without insanity but I'll get more active, will continue anyway insanity i don't matter if my muscles dont grow at least detoxed me and motivates me to eat better and is a good antidepressant hehe.
I will tell that if I saw these results, I have more strength, more repetitions do push-ups in the second week of insanity I noticed that a lot thinner.
I have even come to think that I've fat gained, maybe it's muscle, arms, molded me and I see more fat, I like most ^ ^ I need to remove fat from the gut. I just took some pictures of the second month of insanity and I regret it but still be missing more results, I can do more pictures hehe. i girl
sorry for my bad spelling, I try to write well, correcting words

Looks like I got my routine mixed up!!!!!
There's a section in the book that I thought was week 9 through 11. Well, it read week 9 and 11. Then I read the next section after that and it read week 10 and 12. So really I'm gonna have to do week 10 and 12 workouts in the book for week 11 and 12.... Oh well. I'm still getting in kick butt shape!! :D
Kenpo X last day of week 10, moving onto week 11!!!
I agree about the Core Synergistic, it feels too mellow for me compare to the other workouts. I still like it though for a change every now and then, since it's not happening very often according to the Classic workout routine in the book.
I have never done the Cardio X, so not knowing what the Dreya Roll is.... I have the DVD, it's just not in the Classic Routine, which it listed in the Lean Routine. So is it super tough to do? Sounds like it!! :)
I like the Super Skater in the Legs and Back X!!

You should watch it just for fun - YIKES! I like a lot of cardio which is why I opted for P90X Lean.
BTW, I signed up at teambeachbody.com - I go to the site every day except Sunday and go to their Super Gym - it tells me which workout I'm doing that day, that way there's no guessing on my part. I can also look ahead to see what's in store for the week.
Being dyslexic, I found it difficult to sort out the weeks/days/routines in the book.
I'm about to do Yoga X - then appointments at the office all the way thru evening . . .

Did you know that Tony has more advanced DVDS for P90X? Isn't that cool!!!? Wow! I like Tony!! I did work out to one of his workouts a long time ago and really like the way I felt when I did his workouts then!! (He's a good looking guy BTW!! :))
Tomorrow is first day of week 11!!! It's nice I made it this far!! Thank goodness!! :D

I took a break again!! :( So I haven't even got started on my final week yet!! I really have a problem with this taking a break thing. Even if I take a break just for one day, it'll turn into a 2-3-4-5 days or who knows how long kind of a break......
So what I'm gonna do is just keep moving daily, no more breaks for me. It's not working for me if I want to keep up being active daily. So I'm going to add whatever I want to do for the 7th day for working out instead of taking a break! I can see how I needed it when I ate SAD food and working out. Now that I'm eating raw, I really don't need it anymore.
It's more of a habit that I have to break and unlearn!!! I had to unlearn alot of old stuff when I first went raw and be willing to learn new things! Sort of the same process except it's the attitude about exercising instead of food!!
I'm better now than I was about breaks then I was before and thanks to P90X! Since I'm nearing the completion of 90 days, I find myself wanting to fall back into my old pattern of workout, then don't workout, workout, then don't workout, and so on! I want to break this cycle.
So in my own time, this is what I'm going to work on to unlearn this bad habit after 90 day as on my way to complete 180 days of P90X!!! :)
Anyways, thanks for hearing me ramble on about this!!! ;)
Katie P

I'm gonna go ahead and post pictures tomorrow even though I'm still finishing up my last week here which is the recovery week.
I'm doing this earlier, because I feel that I've been shying away from taking the picture results of 90 days. I feel that it will help me move forward instead of backward, so that I can continue on instead of procrastinating which I have been doing off and on during the last two week!!! Once I do that, I feel that I will be motivated again to go for a 2nd round of P90X which I will be keeping track of results in my own private time.
It's now becoming part of my lifestyle! Which is good! Usually after three months of doing something is most likely a new habit! And this is a very good habit to keep around!! :)
Then I'll post a blog in the blog area about my experience with P90X from the begining to the end tommorrow as well!!!
See ya all tomorrow!!

Okay here are my pics from 30-60-90 days of P90X!! :D
I see results! I wouldn't have dare to wear a bikini on the 60th day!
Now on the 90th day, I'm comfortable with wearing a bikini!!
You can see that it really made inmprovement on the back of my legs and worked it way up smoothing it out and toning it up! It took patience!
I haven't been able to be proud to sport a bikini for a really really long time since my childhood. So it's a really big deal to me!!! And I just want to say thanks to Tony for P90X, he know what he's doing!!
So I will be doing the second round in my own time and so on!! I feel that it's worth the investment so that I can stay in good shape for the rest of my life and say later days to my old mentality about exercising!!! :)

Very coooooool!!! I really think that P90X is the best workout there is that is realistic enough to keep up as a lifestyle. Other workouts are just too crazy or too mellow for me or just focus on one area of the body...
