View Full Version : A "sweet" marinara?

I tried making a raw marinara sauce to put over zuchini. I used roma tomato, sun dried tomato, some olive oil, red bell pepper and oregano, basil... and I think that's it.
Well it was kind of sour and not very good at all. I am so use to my non raw sauces that are really like bright red and tomatoey. This was very watery and sour tasting.

Any ideas?

Try adding a few dates/date paste, and up the dried tomatoes.

Best to add the spices and olive oil right at the end. Just to blend in, not to pulverize, like you would the other stuff.

My family won't eat the raw stuff either, but I will. I even tried mixing a little raw in with their cooked. It will go over if I don't put too much though.

Soak dates overnight (however many you want) and blend in with your other ingredients. You got sweet when you do this!

And hang on to the soak water. I soaked 2 cups of dates overnight earlier this week for a dessert recipe and I hung onto the soak water (the recipe didn't call for its use). I added some each day into my green smoothie - it was thick and syrupy and out of the ballpark sweet. *Ü*

Alissa has a delicious Marinara in her book, Living on Live Food. I love it!
