Wow. I ended up with so many different things for great prices. I got organic when I could. I cleaned the fridge out when I got home and froze some things that were on the way towards getting bad in the fridge.
I think I got good deals....I got canteloupe, oranges, watermelon, carrots, snap peas, plums, pears, tomatoes, spinach, kiwi, grapes, raspberries, strawberries. They also had apples and pineapples, but I still have some, so...next trip.
I have been taking snap peas, carrots, orannge slices, and whole plums, pears, kiwis to work for lunch and eating them during the day. I haven't done any smoothies, yet, and I am waiting for a juicer before I do that.
This AM, I did make a frozen strawberry, cherry, blueberry, tomato, peach, ice, and water smoothie. I don't know what I was expecting....I never likes smoothies before very much (texture maybe), but this kind of tasted bland. I put it into the freezer and will have it later on with a spoon. I do have to read recipes. Overall, I think I will be great to do this full time soon. I am still going through some of the food I had in the house that I did not want to waste.
So, I am eating fruits and vegetables up until dinner time and then having wht is in the house for dinner. Once that is gone, I will be on all f/v. I am thinking MOnday.
Love it, so far.

I am not a big boxload person at all. I go to costco sometimes to get the big container of organic spinach. They now have organic "dry" products...but I am so dissapointed that they only have carrots, spinach, and spring mix that is organic.
Oh well I will stick to my garden and the fields now.
We *love* Costco!
If you'd like to see more organic - PLEASE fill out the customer comment cards and mail them in! That's how they know what we want :)
I believe you can even go to their website and let them know.
We love their organic spinach and or. Spring Mix lettuce. We get organic raisins there as well.
I have been known to buy their organic frozen corn and peas. Not raw - I know, but the best I can find here during non-Farmer's Market season.
We also get their frozen blueberries and smoothie fruit mix for my green smoothies.
We buy a lot there ~ I'm so grateful it's so close! *Ü*

They also have organic apples, pears, tomatoes, cucumbers. I bought them there. I have no garden and one day want to, but for now, Costco is cheaper than running to the grocery store for it. I do go to Trader Joes, too, and they have a great organic variety.

To all you Costco, Traders, and WF shoppers - I'm so jealous!!!
Yes, we have Wegmans, (which I guess is why we don't have any of the aforementioned stores), but it falls really short of what I need/like. The anchor store is the closest and they did FINALLY put in a fresh juice bar, but every single juice blend that they make is 50% or more apple cider, which is of no use to me (apple-sensitive as well as preservative-sensitive). At least they are trying, I guess.
We do have a tiny but mighty co-op, and great CSAs and open markets.....but it is the other six months a year a really challenging.....

I wonder if it would be worth investing in a fruit of the month type club. I am sure they have specified organic ones if that is what you are into. Hey, maybe when you ask for a Christmas present when no one knows what to give you, that can be your request!
I was at the mall yesterday at a high end kitchen store that I was given $100gift card to for Christmas. I was looking at juicers and the one I like was $400. So, $300 after the gift card. My brother said, "Yeah right, Christmas, birthday, Easter, AND New Year's for the next 2 years if you want that thing!" BUt hey, I put it out there so someone will cave and buy it I am sure....maybe a group gift.

Costco carries some delicious champagne mangoes. They are in season now. Look for them next time. You have to let them get softer than regular mangoes before you eat them. They are really nice and sweet and flavorful when they are pretty soft and the skins are starting to wrinkle.
My favorite base for smoothies is a little bit of water or OJ, 4 or 5 ripe bananas, one medjool or a couple of bahri dates and then whatever fresh or frozen fruit I have on hand. One of my favorites is the above with mango; the other is the above with frozen cherries and frozen blueberries. Delicious. The tomato in a smoothie sounds a bit weird. :-)
Blessings,
Audrey
