Alternate day fasting (ADF) is what it says: Eating without restriction one day then fasting (very low energy intake) the next, then repeated over and over. These are referred to as up and down days. Published studies with animals APPEAR(I do personally question the methodology used) to show an increase of up to 30% in MAXIMUM known life-span for the animal being studied although these studies were done with cooked food they certainly have relevance for all here.
Apparently ADF turns off genes involved in aging and activates the anti-aging gene SIRT1. My observation is you'll eat at least 1.5x more on your up day, but less food overall as your body WILL become more efficient in using energy. It does offer the chance to add 30 years of life for those that are disciplined. I haven't tried it for more than one week at a time. Anybody aware of, or practicing this also?
