View Full Version : Help! In need of green smoothie variety

I've been really interested in doing a green smoothie feast (in need of some gentle spring cleaning ;)) and to that end I've been experimenting with a ton of gs recipes, to make sure I'm prepared, but so far I can only find ONE combination that I love: banana, celery and baby spinach. AMAZING. But when I try any other combination of fruits and greens, it ends up tasting gross or just watery and boring! :( (I also like banana and parsley, but I'm wary of getting excessive amounts of parsley cos of the oxalic acid thing). I'm also using Pure Synergy, so I guess I'm getting extra *green* nutrition from that (that's the hope, anyway!) and I've never had any blood sugar/weight gain issues from eating a lot of bananas, but I do hear people talking all the time about how important it is to rotate your greens... SO, should I be worried and carry on the search for other combinations I can stomach, or just enjoy what I'm doing now and wait for my body to crave something else?

Thanks in advance ;)

I like spicy smoothies :) Try this one if you like: spinach, cilantro, leek, tomatoes, basil, parsley, chilli.

I've found that Kale replaces Spinach pretty well, both are quite low taste when in with fruits. Wheatgrass juice also might be a good choice if you can get it?
Also when I make green smoothies I tend to find they are watery however one of my faves is Spinach, celery and orange juice, getting the greens without a taste issue.

My fav:
2 frozen bananas
wheat grass/ kelp/ spirulina/ maca powders
ground flax

At Costco the other day a vita-mix rep made a smoothie with:
Pineapple/ grapes/ banana & spinach & it was super yummy!

Don't discount the truly savory gs - sometimes the whole sweet/banana thing doesn't do it for me - so I just go with greens, cilantro, jalapeno or ginger...

Pineapple? Peaches? Berries?

Also, steep some herbal tea and try that as a base.

G'luck!

Today I tried one:

leaves of cabbage turnip, oranges, and ginger, three people loved it and I had to fight for my own smoothie.

The leaves of the cabbage turnip are not this strong in taste and the fruitiness came with the orange, the kick from the ginger.
If you want to have it rich in content, add a banana, but haven't tried it.

Emma - check out the recipe section on this site. Also here (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=54452) is a link to 70 different green smoothies found in the recipe section of this site.

One of my favs not listed there is spinach with orange juice and fresh nectarines. I'm also really enjoying adding orange juice, apple and banana with generous dollop of coconut oil. My skin LOVES this!
