Hello everyone,
I've been lurking for a couple of weeks. I find myself coming back for more. I've been watching video's, reading articles and books for weeks. This type of lifestyle really interests me. It all started after a vegetable fast. (Although cooked)
I have been drinking green smoothies for a couple of weeks. They are really very good. I'm really, really considering going to the next step. I purchased Alisha's book/dvd set last night. Impatiently waiting for them to arrive!
I would love to hear your best "newbie" advice.
Thank you,
Karen

KISS, Keep It Simple Sweetheart!;)
No need to worry about preparing elaborate dishes.
Play with your food.
Also good for you emotionally to play with the family pets, especially squirrels, but DON'T eat them of course.

Yes, keeping it simple is always my first recommendation.
Surround yourself with raw everywhere. Always make sure to have extra food on hand when you're out. At home, have plenty of food made for times when either you don't feel like making anything or are having trouble with raw or life. Keeping some in the freezer can be a lifesaver.
Have tons of fun. :)

I would love any keeping it simple ideas. Stick with meals/recipes with few ingredients and steps. Most of my meals take 5 minutes or less to prepare and use under 8 ingredients.
A high speed blender like a Vitamix is one of the best investments you can make over any other equipment. Makes everything way more simpler than a standard blender.

Eat what you like. Don't make it more complicated than it needs to be. (and it doesn't need to be complicated at all) Try a new fruit or vegi each week.

Weeeeell, I am going to be the devil's advocate and say, the KISS will be successful or not depending on whether or not you are a "foodie" like Raw Knister and me. For me, I do better on raw if I keep some food on hand that is a bit more complicated, like some raw entrees or crackers and desserts. I don't eat that way every meal or even every day, but if I only eat simple foods like fruits and salads, I quickly start craving. That is definitely where I went wrong this last month after surgery. Why I didn't prepare some goodies and keep them in the freezer I will never know but I sure wish I had. I usually have a raw food prep day every week or twice a week where I will make a bunch of stuff to keep me happy the rest of the time. As you start out, don't worry about eating "too much" fats, nuts, fruit, whatever. Just eat what you want when you want and slowly you will learn to listen to your body.

I as well have prep days Wednesdays and Sundays.. I make wrap vegetables to go in wraps . I find if I spend about 2 hours twice a week making chopped vegetables for my wraps, I never go of my raw food and I make a sweet treat as well. My husband is the one that eats that every night, I keep it in the freezer . I thing the trick is always being one day ahead on food prep. ie keeping your vegetable clean as you buy them., it is that simple..

i think preparation is very good advice.
If I'm craving and I don't have dried fruit or some nuts around, I'll lean towards SAD foods.
But if I even just have a bag of frozen fruit in the freezer, I'm saved and I'm totally raw for one more day.
so to double up on that advice, keep raw foods around the house.
I always have frozen strawberries in the freezer and dried apple slices laying around that i make in my dehydrator.
