I am thinking about going on a fast, but I have had a hard time deciding on the length. It's hard deciding on the length because I have certain things going on where I wouldn't be able to fast. I am thinking of splitting up a 30 day fast, doing 20 days, perhaps a few days raw/vegan, and then fasting again for 10 days. I think it would be easier to go raw after fasting because my system would be cleaned out.

Has anybody fasted for a really long time and had great results? I would love to get all of these toxins out of my body and feel fresh.

I definitely found it easier to go raw after fasting.

Sometimes I've had to increase/decrease the length of my fasts during the fast. Sometimes my body simply resists attempts to go longer and I eat sooner than I planned, other times I find myself really into the experience and am able to extend. I really encourage you to do what seems feasible and reasonable while listening to what your body tells you.

The longest I've fasted was about 21 days. It wasn't the greatest fast (I wasn't in a spiritual frame of mind). For really great results (feeling great, etc), I'd recommend having at least an hour of me-time to rejuvenate. I personally like long walks, meditating, anything in/around nature and natural settings.

I am starting a fast on Thursday the 22nd. Wanna join me? I am aiming for a week and if all is going well, will keep going. I like just water with fresh lemon juice, or just water. You never can tell what is in bottle juices, so I would rather NOT take my chances. We should chat along the way, I know I need the help and encouragement.
Best,
Brooke

hey! I am going to start tomorrow (the 21st) so it'll just be a day before yours. My goal is at least 20 days, but I would love to take it further. I hope God will heal me of my food addiction/depression during this time. I am so excited not only to heal my body/mind, but to develop a closer relationship with God through this period. So I'm starting tomorrow, I'll just have 20 as my goal and hope for more, but just see what God leads me to during my fast. So yes, I will fast with you Brooke. Have you fasted before? I've done an 8 day fast and wished I could have gone longer (but couldnt due to certain events). Hm, can I change my life in 30 days?

Mandabear and Brookegoeden, I would love to correspond with the two you as I travel my journey of 21 days. Today is day 2 for me. My goals are:
1. To end food additions
2. To maintain a "high" raw diet
3. To maintain 80% of the fat loss
4. To start training for a full marathon
5. To feel happier, peaceful, spiritual, etc..

Hey! Setting goals is a really good idea.

My goals (or some of them):
1. To help conquer (for lack of a good word) my eating disorder
2. To maintain the majority of my weight loss
3. To kick start my veganism and high-raw lifestyle
4. To improve my physical shape--or to help me getting into top shape (and maybe run a race or a few)
5. To prove to myself that I can do anything I set my mind to
6. To develop a closer relationship and understanding of God
7. To stop my addiction to diet pop...

We can do it. Today's number one, I had some coffee and diet pop :-( But I hope to stop that after day 3-4. I was feeling like giving up (already) and I knew it would be like this, hopefully I will be able to get rid of pop and coffee completely after day 4. I figured I'd let the first *hard* days slid, and then get rid of it as opposed to going cold turkey.

I'm starting a fast on the 22nd as well. I've never fasted more than 36 hours...
I really want this to work, though. I'm just going to go as long as I can. Having all of your support will certainly help
Ciao

Way to go Mandabear. Don't give in to the urge to stop that urge will decease after day 3 or 4.

Hey...I've been doing good today (Day 2) I need to stop drinking this coffee and diet pop though. I am only drinking water tomorrow...

Let me know how the water day goes as I have never done just water before although I hope to be able to do that the last 2 or 3 days of my fast.

Hopefully your fast will completely get rid of your coffee addiction.

I have never been a coffee drinker and I rarely drank soda. My biggest down fall is SAD sweets. If raw sweets were very, very affordable and easily accessible then I might not have this problem. But I can't make that execuse anymore as I am planning to always keep some raw deserts on hand. I have got to find 1 or 2 to substitutes for those Subway raisin cookies that I am addicted to.

I'm almost done with Day 3, I have liquid fasted so far and tomorrow I am beginning a 10 day water/green tea only fast. I read somewhere that the weightloss during a 10day water fast is equal to that of a 30day juice fast. Is that true? Does anybody have any experience water fasting? What kind of results did you get?

I will probably go back to juice after the 10 days, I'm excited to speed up this cleansing process! :-D

I had a super day fasting today... I wasn't even hungry. I can't believe how much energy I had all day. I even got an A on my math midterm!

However... then I got to work at 1700... I work in a bakery... I'll be starting my fast over tomorrow, the 24th.

I hope everyone else had better luck!
