So cool that we have so many people joined up with the challenge for the month!
I'm upstate for the weekend and trying to figure out what to bring for snacks on a bike ride The Husband and I are heading out on this morning. First one of the season! First one in about a year and a half actually cause I had shoulder surgery last year and couldn't ride all last season.
I'm not sure what sort of snacks to bring that will fit in my pockets. I guess some dried fruit and nuts.
Ooh, I'm so excited for the 3 day weekend and being outside in the fresh air and making and eating lots of good food.
Happy Good Friday to everyone.
Hi All!
Are you oppposed to Lara bars Katy or Whole Foods? I know the one near me has lots of new raw snacks. They're pricey but help get you through. You're probably gone already anyway!
I did it yesterday! I made it through day 1 after not being prepared AT ALL. All I had was an apple and about ¼ of a Lara bar. Being busy probably helped. When I got home, for today I was able to make a huge salad to last the next few days with fixings, Ani Phyo’s curry dressing (YUMMO) and some kale salad. I also made a green smoothie today. I have an avocado, apples and organges so I AM SET! Woo hoo!
Man, green smoothies taste so much better directly out of the blender, but mine is still good. I love the new raw snacks WFs has by Go Raw..the ginger snaps are great. I wish I could make them just like it myself at home! Have a fantastic day!

I agree, this is so cool to see everybody onboard for the month of April. I wish us all we need to stay raw.

B-green smoothie=kale, pineapple, banana
S-apple
L-ended up having Zucchini with tomatoes, blk pepper and olive oil..taste like the freshest pasta ever
S-?
D-Made Mock Salmon Pate to try in a green wrap I believe..

Yes, glad so many others are on board--how fun!
...I see Lara bars mentioned by several participants--well, THAT'S certainly good to know, that there are some raw prepared things out there.
Re: Kgarret post yesterday: Hi--yes, keeping it simple will keep me more easily on the raw wagon, for sure. I did end up using my blender for the kale, and added pineapple and banana. It was sludgy, but adding water made a big difference in palatability. I was so happy to be eating dark greens.
Yesterday, I ended up not even being that hungry for dinner, and had a small salad. I also made a dessert, that I saw someone post in a recipes thread here, Blueberry Crumble: walnuts and dates blended into a 'crust', topped with blueberries and dates blended. Not the real thing, but not bad for a sweet treat.
I'm getting more ideas every day, as I see what others are eating. :)
Good Luck today! Make it a healthy one.

Nice to see so many here - many more than were here last month. Spring must be giving us a little nudge. I so enjoyed my walk this morning. Birds singing away. I felt pretty good considering it's just my 2nd morning without junk in me. (not mentioning what it was;)
Breakfast: Green smoothie: seeded red grapes, banana, cuke, celery, water and ice. Tasted so-so. No matter though. It was good for me.:D
I simply add to this post as the day goes on because I don't know how to make it a "draft" to post altogether at end of day.
Lunch: Another smoothie: bok choy, strawberries, bananas (not too tasty!), I had forgotten what bok choy tastes like. But it is so good for me!
Snack: Guacamole (recipe from goneraw) with dehydrated delicious crackers, and yummy sweet red pepper.
If I have anything else today, it will be RP's brownies. (raw, of course)

yesterday I had mainly fruit
whole Cantelope
whole Papuya
raisins
banana
veggie crackers with hummus
one of my sons asked if the seeds of the papuya could be eaten and I wasn't sure so looked it up. I came across information that said the seeds could be eaten and that they could be used for parasite cleanses as well. Has anyone tried these as this?
I didn't eat them but the next time I have one I am going to to see what happens.
Today I am starting with a smoothie, lots of spinach, a banana, lots of water and a little ojucie, as my belly is a little weak from all the fruit yesterday. :)

I am still feeling low in energy, having had a strep-throat infection for days, and I'm assuming also from detoxing. So, I'll consider it a good thing.
This post by Alissa may be an encouraging reminder for others who are also feeling lousy at the outset of this super-healthy routine. It is from Alissa's book, for those who don't have it.
http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=3206
The original thread above has much more inspiring info, but here is a snip:
"As the body begins to detox, the poisons and toxins are thrown into the blood stream as the body tries to rid itself of them. That results in unpleasant sensations, that is why you may feel worse before you feel better when you begin eating raw and living food. Detox symptoms may include headaches, nausea, skin rashes and breakouts, colds, fever, fatigue, irritability, and the temporary increase of existing aches and pains."
...............................................
B: Kale pina colada: kale, pineapple, banana, coconut flakes, and coconut oil. Well, ya just can't hide the kale, but it wasn't too bad!
S: Grapes, Nuts, raisins, avocado
L: Baby Spinach salad, w/avocado, Italian dressing
D: Juice - Carrot, beet, celery, ginger
S: 1/2 apple
....and WATER

Yes, I have several times. I don't use many as they are very, very peppery. You should proceed with caution! Maybe just try a couple in your mouth first - then you'll know how much you can handle?:)

S - Larabar (apple pie) and a banana

Thanks Zuri and Basenjimamma. You know I wasn't opposed to Lara bars but I had noticed that they don't seem to say raw on them anymore so I guess I'll try to stay away. Probably happened when General Mills bought them :(
The bike ride was great but killer long! We stopped by this place here in Woodstock called Sunfrost that has a juice and smoothie bar and tons and tons of produce.
The Husband and I each got a papaya maya smoothie with raspberries (papaya, banana, orange juice) and shared a green juice. We brought some granola with us and snacked on that, too.
Was starved and tired when we got home. The Husband came to the rescue with this awesome salad.

How good does that look??!
I've had some cravings. Especially on the ride when we made a pit stop at a place that sells my favorite doughnuts. But I just need to keep reminding myself about all the great foods we can make raw.

Yeah for day 2!
Having a difficult time eating well today. Just a bit tired. Yesterday I ate a lot of fruit and then went out to dinner with friends where I ate a raw salad with guacamole.
Today I grazed on fruit during the day - 1 apple, 1 orange and 4 bannanas
So tonight I decided to try the raw protien powder in a green smoothy. It made it a bit chalky. It included spirulina, 1 bag of frozen strawberries, 1 apple and a lot of spring mix.
I am looking forward to a raw family weekend with my sister coming over. She is also raw.

Tauoi, I had googled them because I hate to waste and read that you could let them dry out and grind them up and use it in place of pepper which actually works, not as peppery though but give it a try, I will definetely look into the parasite thing.
Zuri, I LOVE the GoRAW bars, the spirulina gives me so much energy its so amazing.
So for me today
B - cherry larabar (btw found them super discounted and not at all past expiration, normally 1.50, got them for .37, bought the whole lot :D)
S - nut bar (left me super bloated rest of day:()
L - green salad with homemade dressing
D - green salad with walnuts and dried cranberries
Although I did eat today I found myself not that hungry, which is probably why I felt so bloated (mental note: listen to your body)
And a note on yesterdays concoction....too much stuff, liked a lot of everyones simple recipes, thanks for the ideas:)

I have eaten papaya seeds, for the parasite cleansing reasons--but they are not very good to me..very peppery. I chewed some, bt just swallowed the rest.

Hello all.
The second day I had a delicious icecream for breakfast - frozen strawberry, banana and blueberry through the champion juicer. Topped with sliced banana and cacaonibs... Yummi.
I had to go to work for an evening shift - and there was pancakes and cupcakes on the table - a little hard to resist, but i managed to stay with my grapes and some cashews.
For dinner a had a huge salad with some flax crackers.
I think it´s going well so far - but I feel a have to eat a LOT and eat very often, since i am pregnant and hungry almost all the time... :)

Hey RawLouise. That sounds good. How did you make it in the champion though? Do you have the blank (rather than the screen) insert? That must be it. Need to get one of those.
Nice job resisting the pancakes and cupcakes.
And thanks, Cashew for the EVOO reply. I was so stumped on that one :)
let's see if I can remember yesterday...
Green Smoothie
Dates stuffed with almond butter
Went to new raw food place in town and got:
Walnut Tacos & raspberry cheescake... yum!!! :)

Yes I have the blank plate to insert instead of the screen - and it´s really good for making icecream! :p
