Hello all :) My name is Michelle and I am a 25 year old single mother of one (my beautiful 9 month old son) who has recently decided to try raw. So far I've been eating about 80% raw for the past 2 weeks and I'm loving it. I've been drinking 2 green smoothies a day and already find myself craving more! My baby boy is also loving the smoothies and often complains if I finish the last mouthful first. I'm hoping to introduce more raw foods into his diet as well.
Would love to chat to other people from Sydney (anywhere else in the world too, but locals would be great! ;) )

Hey there Michelle!
Alas (for you) I'm not from Sydney, I'm from Melbourne, but I welcome you to the forum anyways. ;)
I know rawbies from VIC, WA, QLD but not from NSW, though there is a largish community there.
If you are looking for anything raw in Australia I can at least try and help you out, I've been doing the raw thing for about 6 years now so have watched it all pop up out of nowhere here!
And that is SO EXCELLENT you are getting your son onto green smoothies so young, you are setting him up for life long healthy eating patterns! I just wish I'd discovered raw when my son was that young, then I wouldn't get the whingeing I do when I give him his green smoothie! lol.
Once again, welcome!

Today for lunch I made his usual scrambled eggs, this time adding some sliced ham and veges; while for myself I had rolled oats with dried fruits topped with coconut cream (I know this wasn't a raw meal). He had a few mouthfuls of his food but completely rejected it and I ended up sharing mine with him. After he finished off my plate I made us a green smoothie and we both shared that. He was so impressed that I had given it to him in his own little cup, "just like Mummy's" :)
So happy that I won't have to make separate meals for both of us!

It's excellent you're getting your son into smoothies but you really should stop the ham ASAP:eek:

Already done :)
I had been in two minds about whether or not to feed him a raw diet, simply because his father and I are separated and his father is a big meat/cheese/fast food eater. I didn't want it to be a sudden shock to my baby's system when he ate food at his dad's house. However I spoke to his Dad last night and he seemed a little overwhelmed by willing to attempt a healthier diet for our son. I was pleasantly surprised!
We even spoke about food for his 1st birthday party, so a raw cake may be on the cards too :)
I'm buying a large food processor today, and a food dehydrator next week which will help me with providing raw meals for us both.

You are so on the right track there!
And I must say I'm a little jealous!
And with the cake, make sure to ask us here, we can give you great links. There's a link in the raising raw children section on raw birthday cakes. There are many many ideas, using ingredients that are fine for 1 year olds (not too many nuts).
In fact, I've just gone and gotten the links for you! This one is from a blog:

This one is an ice cream cake adapted from my neopolitan ice banana ice cream cake recipe (she used blueberries, yum):

Another thread with suggestions:

there are heaps of other threads, just use the search button!
