I am new to a raw food lifestyle. I first learned about raw foods while looking at cookbooks in Barnes & Noble! It has definately piqued my interest. I am interested in learning more about a raw diet because I am tired of feeling sick and tired all the time. I need to do something drastic to improve my health. I am not quite ready to go all out raw, but I am trying to incorporate many more raw foods into my diet. I hope this will be a good place to learn and have support.

Hi, Gloria, I am Jim. I am in your boat. In fact, I just got a book this week and have also been searching the internet. My problem, is that I am getting the picture of what a perfect raw lifestyle looks like...but like you, I am trying to learn how to "incorporate" a raw lifestyle from a beginner stand point.

I have one thing I can offer as a mere suggestion. I stopped taking my nexium pills and now I drink two tablespoons of RAW UNFILTERED apple cider vinegar with "the mother" still in the bottle (little pieces of cloudy fruit). I have noted no returning symptoms of heartburn and acid reflux...that is one less pill have to take twice a day because of a change in behavior towards "raw".

all the best,
Jim

Yeah....I can't help but love Barnes and Noble. I'm sure you'll love Alissa's book, even if you don't go 100% raw, right off the bat, you'll still want to eat ALOT more fresh fruits and veggies after reading her book....it's just a side affect of reading her book. Welcome to the forum.

I dabbled in raw for a year befoe taking the plunge 43 days ago..:).
I read several books on the topic, and started by doing "Raw until dinner", meaning eat lots of fruits and/or green smoothies until lunch, then add veggies and nuts to the mix and eat this way until dinnertime. At dinner eat cooked foods, but maybe cleaner then you normally would..like baked fish, chicken or meat as supposed to fried or sauteed in lots of butter, steamed rice intead of fries and of course raw veggies and salads.
As the time goes, diminsh more and more cooked foods at dinner until you actually ate nothing but raw for one day..
Try doing one day at a time, or a weekend of raw, or a week of raw, until you feel ready.

I wish you both, Gloria and Jim, best of luck and lots of strength to do this..you can do it..just put you mind on it..

lots of help and good knowledgable people here. I've enjoyed it and eating this way. I take acv daily. it's good for many things. Look up 'no-poo', diluted acv is used a hair conditioner. It's also good for your skin, imo.
