I have been working out for a few months now. Over the weeks I have gradually raised the incline on the treadmill from no incline when I started up to 10 just this week. I increased my time from 20 minutes with a 5 minute cooldown to 30 minutes with a 5 minute cooldown. I have noticed that I am burning about the same number of calories at an incline of 10 as I burned at a 4, 5 or 6 incline and the distance I walk is slightly lower. I also had to reduce the mph from 3 mph down to 2 mph to make it through the walk. I never, ever hold on to the rails!! That would defeat the purpose. I am trying to gradually work my way up to an incline of 10 at 3 mph. What has been different at a 10 incline is that I am sweating more and and I definitely feel the increase in the incline in my BUTT waaayyy more!!! So it is challenging to me and I definitely want to feel the ache in my butt.

I'm just wondering if speed is more important than the incline. I honestly feel more challenged than before but I don't want to train incorrectly. HELP!:confused:

Hmmmm I wouldnt worry about doing it right. Do what feels right for you. Both sound good...incline and speed. Challenge n confuse your muscles by switching it up often.

Your heart rate is more important than speed and incline. Get a heart rate monitor. You would be surprised at what intensity you are really doing.;)
