I have a recipe that calls for sprouted barley. My HFS is out of stock of this... is there anything to substitute with? Also will it still taste good if i substitue a recipe's dates for figs?

Barley is one of many grains that you can use, it is my favorite because of the taste, however you could substituted any grain of choice, rye, wheat, spelt, kamut etc.
dates and figs are interchangeable, except for the flavor, also figs will give you all the baby seeds in your recipe, where the dates will not. You can also use dried apricots, which I often use in cakes and cookies.
