Vitamix question

I just bought a Vitamix 4500. When I start it, it makes a grindy start-up noise before it gets to full speed, like there is a clutch or some similar mechanism. Is this normal? I've never heard a blender do that before. Otherwise it works great, but I want to make sure there's not a problem. Thanks.

HUMMMMM, well, it is realy hard to tell exactly what you mean. If you have Alissa's DVD, she uses a Vita Mix on it, and it sounds fine. So you might choose to compare yours with that one.

Also, if your blade is not tight enough, it can make alot of noise, I only know this because I just bought a new container, as mine had a stress crack, and when they sent me the details on how to change the blade, it said it must be tight, but not too tight, (like what does that mean?) but it sounds fine.

Of course, the Vita Mix, is a super high speed, super duper heavy duty blender, and does make a lot of noise compared to other blenders.

Is there anyone around you who has one, where you go to to their home and test yours next to theirs?

The only other thing I could think of, is to call the manufacturer, and hold up the phone to the repair dept.
