quick relief = ice pack on top of head or forehead - cool dark room - massage w/ fingertips in circular motion

Ginger relaxes blood vessels in the head and reduces swelling in the brain. It activates natural opiates in the brain that relieve pain. Ginger can be taken in the form of tea or in tablets available at health food stores.

Aromatherapy can promote relaxation and relieve stress and pain.
Chamomile--calming, soothing
Cinnamon--reduces stress, loosens tight muscles
Lavender--reduces pain, relaxes
Lime Essence-reduces anxiety
Marjoram-eases muscle tension
Peppermint--reduces pain, reduces tension

RawGuru sent me this; he probably won't mind if I share it with you:

"The best thing for a migrane is to put a hot pack on it. It will give more blood flow to the vessels. Most people put on a cold pack but it actually does the opposite. Some people do an enema or colonic. Drink plenty of fluids, and green juices, expecially celery. Don't eat a lot of heavy foods. Make some celery seed tea. Just grind up some celery seeds and put 1/2 tsp. of them in a warm cup of water and drink away"

I find that drinking celery juice with a little bit of apple (for sweetness) really helps. And it's good, too! The only problem is that once I get a migraine the LAST thing I want to do is juice (I onle have a manual juicer), so I usually just much on some celery instead. It seems to work much better as a juice though...

I hope you get better soon!

We are all different in what works,
heat on aching muscles = wonderful.
heat on headaches and toothaches = blood pumping so hard you feel your heartbeat in the nerves = NO NO NO. makes the nerve ending so painful I puke (sorry)...just the thought of it, aww yuck :(
anyway I guess we can agree to disagree and different things work for different people :)

Heh, I know. When I get really bad I have to lie down in a cold, dark, quiet room with a wet cloth on my head - it actually doesn't matter whether it is cold or hot, I just need it WET. I have no idea why.

My old yoga teacher tied a really tight scarf around my head once when I had a migraine because that had helped a lot of people she knew. It made me throw up instead of getting better, so yup, we're all different.

But try the celery juice! :)

If you put a hot, wet cloth on your head, it helps to also put your feet in a basin of cold water. It dilates the blood vessels in your brain (more blood=less pain!) and constricts them below. Works well for me! A tea of willow bark also is nice.
