I've tried to search in the archives because I'm sure this topic has been discussed before...I can't seem to find anything though...

First Hi everyone..this is my first post :D

My lil' boy is 10 weeks old, and two days ago I decided to hope back on the Raw road.

Last night he was up every two hours...fussy...didn't sleep well..wanting to nurse and then crying. He hadn't done this since he was about 3 weeks old. It was way off his usual routine. He is such an easy going happy baby....feed him @ 3 am and put him back to bed..but last night he was up @ 11, 1, 3, 5...:(

Just curious if anyone else has experienced this.

My diet the last few days have included

almonds
dates
bean sprouts
radishes
bananas
apples
raw honey
almond butter
sunflower seeds
mango
celery
2 ginger lara bars

Should I do something different? was the turn to raw to drastic for his lil' body you think?

Thanks so much everyone..and I look forward to learning, growing, and making some new friends on here :)

Sounds like he might be going through a growth spurt. Babies nurse more frequently to increase your milk supply. It doesn't last long, and then your body will make the new, larger amount of milk for him.

Are you eating enough? Drinking enough?

Also, I don't see any greens on the list you mentioned. A big green smoothie in the morning would be so good for you (and him!). Have you ever had one?

Ditto on the growth spurt! I can remember nursing every hour at some point! Hang in there :)

My vote goes to growth spurt as well. My daughter is raw and has a 2 month old, and has so much breast milk she is donating some. Just make sure you are eating enough and drinking plenty to keep that milk supply up. Keep up the good work!

another ditto for the growth spurt!

sounds like he is just making his momma milk factory produce more!

I noticed your food intake didn't include very much high quality fats or greens...those are ESSENTIAL for efficient milk making :)

Could you get in some coconut oil, avocados, flax and hemp seeds or oil?
And some dark leafy greens? And PLENTY of water!

Congratulations on your new baby!
:)

I so agree with Dimond, this is a great smoothie. I don't like them very complicated. I freeze bananas to add to this smoothie, but you dont have to.

Another couple that I like--

-pear/romaine (havent had this one in awhle, but it was one of the first ones i liked)
-pineapple/parsley
-avacado/cilantro..with salt, lime, jalapenos,garlic..but avacado cilantro is great on its own
-parsley/apple

But, the spinach/banana one is the smoothie I drink almost everyday. I also use mixed baby greens with banana, too. (more variety of nutrients)

Another great way to eat greens is Alissa's Indian Spinach Dip..so like saag paneer.

The best thing about green smoothies is that you can make it really quick, clean it up really quick, then sip with one hand at your nursing leisure=)

I also enjoyed Mother's Milk tea when mine were nursing. It does help increase your supply..but even if it is only marginal..it helps put you at ease. It tastes good, too=)

I always found it much easier to keep my babies close to me when they were nursing a lot through the night--neither of us really had to wake all the way up to nurse. A well rested, more relaxed Mommy is good for everyone=)

I hope you have a good night=)

Yes you need more greens, and you might as well make it a superfood smoothie while you are at it. I will give my recipe in basic form and then add the superfoods you can add to it to make great human milk.

2-3 cups of orange juice (preferably fresh squeezed in citrus juicer, which are
cheap)
juice from 1-2 lemons (in citrus juicer or de-seeded)
1 banana
1 small packet of stevia or 4 liquid drops ( so we don't add too much fruit to sweeten)
1 apple or other fresh organic fruit (kiwi, peach, strawberry, etc.)
1 cup of frozen fruit
2 cups of organic spinach
2 organic kale leaves ( no stem unless you have vita mix)(if you don't have
just add another 1-2 cups of spinach)
a few ice cubes ( if you like it cold)(filtered water ice cubes)

SUPERFOOD ADD ONS

1 tsp spirulina
1/8 tsp liquid ionic trace mineral supplement (concentrace or other
brands)($30 but lasts for 6 months)
1/4 tsp probiotic powder or liquid (refrigerated)
1 TBS flax oil
1 tsp bee pollen
1 tsp kelp powder (cheap on internet or Whole foods)

pineapple
bb spinach or beet greens
6-8 ice cubes
frozen bananas

both kids and all their friends like this one. If you don't have a vitamix, you may need some water with the ice.

VERY IMPORTANT:

Parsley is used to help STOP lactation when you finish breastfeeding - don't consume while you are trying to breastfeed!

Marshmallow (the herb -not the confection!) helps to increase milk production.

Please don't consume parsley while having these troubles.

Best of luck with your little guy! Mine will be turning 20 in just about a week. Wish I could go back to day one!

I'm heading to the market today to pick up some more greens and try a new recipe for green smoothies....hopefully of the many you all gave me I can find a couple I actually like :D

But an update: he slept from 10 until 4:30 last night, so I guess that was just coincidence and nothing to do with my diet?

oh, and I have no problems with lack of milk if anything it's the opposite. I could feed an army ;)

I can tell I'm going to like it here...you were all so helpful! I appreciate it~
