My sister is vegan and we both have fallen in love with the Naked brand green smoothie. A 1/2 gallon is $9. I love this stuff but I'm worried about attempting to make my own (I don't have a juicer anymore and any blenders we have are not that great) and failing miserably. I know I like this stuff and even though its expensive, I was wondering if it could count as a green smoothie even though its not raw (I don't think its raw since its not labeled as such). How much do I drink a day? Both my mother in law and husband want to get a juicer. Its just a matter of getting the money together to get the nice one. (want to make it worth it as our last juicer was crap) So maybe eventually I'll be making my own.

Drink as much as you want/feel to.

It's so funny how many people (full-fledged SADdists) I've come in "real life" contact with in the last few weeks have commented to me in passing how much they love Naked juice, and how they are drinking x amount per week, or every daily. And while of course drinking Naked juice is better than drinking say, soda, it certainly isn't raw, and therefore you really aren't getting the full benefits of vital life-giving nutrients. So drink all you want, but please don't fool yourself that somehow this "dead" juice (for lack of a better word, sorry) is doing any great things for your health. *shurg* ... although maybe it is, they say placebo effect is really strong.

Are there any swap meets in your area? They have swap meets every Sunday at our local fair grounds. I got an excellent juicer there for half the price (regularly $120, got it for $60) it would usually cost because of a typo on the packaging! They left out the letter "i" in the word "juicer" on one side! Haha! But me and my "jucer" are doing just great! ;)

thrift stores usually have the juiceman juicer. i have had at least 5 of these for under 10 dollars in like new condition.

they are fine.

they'll juice almost anything and are a good start.

oh and i got my current blender which is an osterizer for 3.oo at a thrift store.

i have been using it daily for green smoothies for over a year.

my friend told me she saw a champion at our thrift store for 20.00 last month.

people buy them and think they will "get healthy" and never use them. they are a perfect thrift item.

Instead of buying a juicer, why not save and get a Vita Mix, or a Blend Tec. I am a Vita Mix girl myself. :D

Because I'm dirt poor...haha. No really. I just lost my job and we don't have the money to go and buy a juicer right now. We ended up not getting any commercial green smoothie but got plenty of fruits and veggies.

I was talking to my husband the other day about the fact we needed to go get groceries soon and asked him what he'd like me to put on the list. He said, "Actually, I think I'd like to try raw." I kind of looked at him for a second and then we got to talking about health and food and he really wants to try it. We are going vegan for the rest of this month and then he wants to try 100% raw for all of March. :D

You can make a 1/2 gallon smoothie for less than $1 and even use organic. Nothing beats a freshly made delicious smoothie. :)

$9 is SUPER expensive for 1/2 gallon of Green Smoothie!!! Especially dead greens!

I drink between 1/4 to 1/2 gallon of fresh, raw Green Smoothie daily that I make at home and it costs me on average $2. Below is my typical recipe and what I pay on average for my produce.

Bundle of organic greens $1.69
2 bananas $0.40
1 t. agave nectar $0.10 ;)
Water $0.00
--------------------------------
Vitamix FULL of GS..........$2.29 + tax ;)

You don't need a fancy Blender to make tasty Green Smoothies. Vitamixes are AWESOME, yes, but I and many others here thrived just fine on Raw with cheap blenders for a time.

Of course, I also think your mentality is EVERYTHING. I attracted a Vitamix for $200 when I was thinking not, "I can't afford", but "I have everything I need and want!"

:D

Thanks for the advice. I will try and see if I can make a half way decent green smoothie this weekend. Positive attitude! That is what I need. You know what I can tell you it does work. I decided to let my husband do his own thing and left him alone with his diet and just figured if he was going to make a change in his diet he'd do it on his own and wouldn't you know, it worked. Now HE's the one in the store telling me he wants to eat 100% raw.

I'll let you know how my green smoothie adventures go.

Glad I saw this. I was going to ask the same thing. I am saving to get a juicer and bought the Naked Green Machine thinking I was doing a good thing. It was 3.99 for 1/2 gallon, so I thought, why not? It seemed like it had the right stuff in it. Now I know for the future.

I love the turn of events in this thread. Contemplating the dead gs lead you in an interesting direction. AWSOME!!!!!

I would drink one glass a day. I make my own. A banana, some ice, some almond milk, a handful of spinach and you're good to go.;)
