View Full Version : green food supplements?
After poking around a little bit more, it seems like some raw foodists use "green" supplements, powders and such... mixed into their green smoothies.
Was wondering what the general thoughts were about this? Beneficial? Not necessary or considered really "raw"?
If you use a green supplement, what effects have you noticed from it? Good experience / bad experience? And if you do find it beneficial... maybe you could point me in the right direction by suggesting some good brands to look into?
I'm not sure how this sort of thing is view by the "raw community" or at least this board.
thanks in advance!

i only use spirulina and chlorella when i'm fasting... and only because i'm not really into green juices so i figure it's a way to get my greens without doing greens.
but when i'm eating... i do fresh live greens over powders any day!
sorry, i'm not much help...
I use 1 rounded teaspoon of spirulina (http://www.iherb.com/Nutrex-Hawaiian-Spirulina-Pacifica-16-oz-454-g/9942?at=0) and chlorella (http://www.iherb.com/Jarrow-Formulas-Yaeyama-Chlorella-1-Kilogram-Powder/147?at=0) every day.
I don't mix them in my smoothies or juice though. I mix them with my wheat grass juice.
I can't say I notice anything extra from taking these, I've been taking them for quite some time and they're just part of my day. I store them in my freezer (just cuz). *Ü*

I like Vitamineral Green (http://www.healthforce.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=garden_flypage.tpl&product_id=6&category_id=1&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=65)by Healthforce. It is more than a supplement, it is a RAW FOOD. When I feel like adding powders in a green smoothie (which is most days) I always start with a heaping Tablespoon of this.
It is hard to determine what extra benefits I get from it. I can tell you for sure that if I need a quick pick me up and don't have time for a meal, a spoonful of Vitamineral Green shaken in a jar of water (drink quickly ;)) feels as nourishing and satisfying as a meal. It will keep me going strong for several more hours.
thanks all!
I think I'll look into the Vitamineral Green, since it is a raw food. :)

Looks to be a little cheaper on Amazon and most of the reviews on it are positive...
Health Force Nutritionals makes a wonderful RAW green powder called Vita Mineral Green. It is sold at The Raw food World and other raw stores on-line.:)

Prices on VMG vary a lot. I buy the 500ml bottle for around $55. There is a health food store here that sells the 300ml bottle for $55. The store manager said it is because of the way VMG has the pricing structure set up, whatever that means. Maybe pricing is based on volume. Shopping around for best price is worth it. I buy it from Raw Vegan Source because it is local, because I want to support them, and I don't have to pay shipping.
