I'm just curious as to why people are fasting. Seems to me that there are a lot of people out there who feel that fasting is done solely for reducing. I understand that this isn't the case as I have fasted for different reasons at different times in my life.

Right now, I am fasting to get rid of migraine headaches and regain the vitality I have lost over the past year.

Just wondering if anyone would like to share the why.

Fasting has its spiritual as well as physical profoundities. It is one wonderful way to amp up health!

caution is needed.....I have been looking at this for a few years now. My concern is that some who fast are merely continuing dosordered eating. I have read the blogs and seen their challenges and admissions.

It might be more seeking to control food....eeeeeek

In the wild, animals instinctually fast when they are ill. I, for one, am always amazed at the wisdom that it is animals' instincts. I believe that if and when we are in tune with our bodies, we know when something is not right, and our instincts tell us to fast. I know that for me, when I am feeling under the weather, I "lose my appetite." And I'm not just talking about when I have the flu and don't want to upchuck! Other fast because they want to lose weight. And some fast for spiritual reasons. I, personally, fast to regain and solidify that mind-body connection. I become acutely aware of what is going on within my body when I fast.

I am fasting to gain clarity and energy before I start back to school in August. Also, I am hoping to rid myself of those occasional but devastating cooked food cravings. I think I have poisoned myself with soy in the past, and want to clear that out. And, the most motivating reason of all is the increase in frequency of astral projection and connection to guides, etc.

Hahaha, I think freaking out every now and then is a good thing! Shakes things up a bit - puts the butterflies in your belly! And I know there are things about what you're doing that may frighten or worry you. Leaving the path you've been on for a new one. Wondering at times if this is the right decision. As long as you measure your success in life as being happy and at peace, then you have nothing to fret about! Four years ago, I quit my steady, comfortable job to pursue my dreams of being a massage therapist. Now, I am happy beyond anything I could have imagined. I come in early and stay late, because I want to! I struggled at first, financially. But even that didn't upset me, because I was finally doing what I loved! Now, I have in abundance. All the "freaking out" was worth it! And I know what you mean by detoxing all your emotions! That's yet another aspect of fasting that I love. Whenever things become overwhelming, it helps to center me. I actually am having a bit of an emotional situation in my life right now... and all this talk is making me think I need to fast..... :)

Best of luck to you and your dreams, Katie P.!!! :D

There are so many reasons why I fast.
The main one- I love it. I love that peaceful serene feeling, that I get at the end of the first day, and even better one a few days into the fast, where all colors seem to be more beautiful and I love everyone and everything so much deeper - effortlessly.
When I fast regularly, I don't get any flu or colds, and I'd take a fast anytime instead of the cold.
Food seems to me so much more delicious after the fast.
My skin becomes nicer, if I do juice fast.
I can remember my guitar pieces much better when I fast. It is like my mind works better.
There is probably much more to it, but that's what I came up with now.

My reasons for fasting haven't always been the same.
This time my reason is to kick the bad caffeine habit and to release some stored and circulating toxins.
