For the last year or so I've been raw with very little fat. I was eating very little nuts, no oils, and some avocado but not a lot. I stopped have my period among other things. There were a couple times when I went to parties and ate dairy, and the next day, I would start a period. So I thought, I guess I'm not getting enough fat or enough protein. I looked up the signs of fat and protein deficiencies, and I had some of the symptoms of fat deficiency (hair loss and wrinkling) and none of the symptoms of protein deficiency. So I decided I needed more fat even though it's a concern to me because I know that eating too much fat puts a strain on the liver and prevents detox. I started eating nuts every day and using olive and coconut oils. Well, still no period, and I still have the other symptoms, as well. I've also gained a little weight which I didn't want to do. I'm not menopausal. I've had my hormones tested, and they are normal. Other than that, I'm thriving on raw. I've never looked or felt better.

VeggieMel, perhaps you will find this interesting reading: Menstruation - Is it Necessary? (http://www.waldorfhomeschoolers.com/menstruation.htm)

I too had quite a bit of hair loss during the first several months.....
I prolonged the issue by not really finishing my detox before I began to eat fat and heavy starches.
Have you tried going a few weeks without heavy starches or fats....even perhaps doing some juicing? You may just need to "cleanse" your system and then slowly try adding in your fats, in small increments as you had been doing previously (and of course starches) again.

I'll read that, Jau.

Spheal, I've been raw for over 2 years. I didn't start having the loss of periods and hair loss until about a year ago, and the hair loss has been off and on. I've done long stretches with very little fat and oils, and I've done lots of juicing, too.
