My family seems to get concerned when I fast because I'm already pretty thin. I understand where they're coming from however I'm not concerned. I just don't know what to tell them anymore to make them okay with my cleansing.
My family is all for being healthy, & cleansing but b/c I'm thin they don't want me to lose anymore weight cause they say I can't afford to.
Any advice on what to tell them, besides my usual of it being a spiritual fast & just an overall letting my body rest detox. I don't know how to make them okay with it.

if your are quite thin, why not do a juice feast instead. It will cleanse your body, give you all the nutrients and vitamins you need, but you wont drop to an unhealthy weight, you will only drop excess pounds that are not meant to be on your body.
either way, just explain to your parents that fasting is not about weight loss, it is about having a healthy body, and doing what feels right to heal your body. if your body needs to fast right now, that is the best thing for it, and it would be wrong to disagree for the sake of making someone feel safer about your decisions. tell them, that if they give you their good wishes, they will see in time, this journey progress and see how much better you are feeling soon.

Thanks Nadien Alexandra!
I'm currently doing the master cleanse. It gets rid of any unwanted weight b/c it gets rid of toxins. I'm drinking calories so I'm getting nutrients, it's just that weight loss is a part of it. If I don't have weight to loose I don't think I'll loose any...guess I'll find out in the end.
Anyway, thanks for the advice

.... I'm not concerned.
There's your answer.
I just don't know what to tell them anymore to make them okay with my cleansing.
You can't "make" anyone o.k. with anything. I'd suggest not telling them what you're doing.

My family is very close & we see each other often. I usually don't say anything until they ask. But it's not possible to keep it quiet especially since I work for my sister. LOL

Why not get them some books on fasting and let them make their own decision... cause it's their decision to make... not yours. As Rev said, you can't make them believe, see, hear or understand anything.
I really have no advice for you in this matter other than what I've already stated in the fasting for feb thread...
Personally I don't waste my time or energy trying to convince anyone of anything. I just say I'm fasting and walk away... period. Cause it's my body and my choice. ;)

Some people gain weight on the MC after the initial loss. My understanding is that if you need to reduce, you will reduce and if you need to gain, you gain. But, I am no expert in that as I have never been one to need to gain.;) Maybe putting that idea out there will get them to ease up.

Why do you want to fast if you are already too thin? I understand that fasting can be a religious experience, but is there no other way to attain that level other than fasting?
If you can answer those questions, I'm sure you can find the right way to explain it to them.=)

i totally agree with what thick was attempting to say to you. try answering these questions... and then perhaps you'll find a response for your family within your answer :)
for example... this is how i'd answer this:
i don't find any other experience as enlightening as fasting. i grow so much when i fast. my meditations are much deeper, my journeys (shamanic) are as well. i find that my headspace is different... more clear, more socially conscious... much more introspective as well.
i find answers to issues/problems/situations that i wasn't able to discover when eating.

Thanks Aleesha!
Your answers are what I was thinking! It's all about a mind body connection that they just may not get

I hear this echoed in my head,

You still might loose some weight when you fast, but once you start eating(eating healthy, that is) your cells will grow back healthier mass than before.

I'm a thin man at 5' 9" and 120 pounds. I could never gain weight for the life of me, but I've read that fasting can reset my body to enable me to gain weight. So I started doing short 3 day fasts. I think that's the way to go, and modify these experiments as it happens.
I think the fasting really helped my depression and skin issues. Food has been a way of coping with anxiety and hopelessness. I applaud the many people that go on extended month-long fasts. I haven't been called to do that…yet.
Mojo sent! :D

Right now I'm fasting/ & detoxing on a fruits & veggies & I think it's helping my body rest a little from taking in fats/ oils. I like that my body doesn't have to work as hard digesting. I'm finding that this might be a good thing to do every few weeks or so just to take a few days & keep it simple/ mono.
