Hi everyone,

I tried fresh dates for the first time today. My health food store had them although they are not organic. They are yellow and still on the branch. When I got home I tried one, and it was fantastic!! I never knew!! I'm going to go back tomorrow and buy a lot more!

I thought that the organic dates that I buy are fresh but they are not yellow and do not have the wow factor that you describe. Maybe there are different types

Those sound delicious!

I order fresh dates from "The Date People". They are delicious!

The dates sold at my local health food store are bland and tasteless in comparison.

Sport, yes these dates are yellow, and like I mentioned they are still on the branch. Also the skin is smooth, not wrinkled, like dates that have been dried.

Thanks for that resource, Mike!

I buy Medjools at the healthfood store. They are hovering close to 7.50 per lb ( pound ). This is steep.

The math says that at 7.50 lb it would cost me 112.50 for 15 lbs The Date People are saying are 48.00 from their farm.

That's less than half. Okay, I'm sold. :)

Now, about those on-the-vine dates - have they been dried ? Sorry if that's a dumb question

Hi, Renee. No, they haven't been dried.

My health food store had them although they are not organic.

I'm wanting to try that variety. Sometimes dates may not be labelled "organic" but the could turn out to be organically grown. I found this with a box of fresh Iranian dates I bought, and I looked at the website for them: http://www.moshkanco.com/eproduct.htm

But the yellow dates are ones I am dying to try! I saw them in the store last time and didn't get them.

Oh, also, there are many fresh "wrinkly skin" dates too. The Iranian dates I described above are smooth, but wrinkle easily, and medjools are quite wrinkly. Dates are one of my favorite fruits.

Fresh medjool dates are soooooo good. They taste just like caramel, or English toffee, to me. There are only a couple of supemarkets here that have them and they are about $7.99/lb (Canadian) but they are worth it!!
