Hey all - I want to drink more grapefruit juice, for various reasons. I use my vitamix to "juice" them so I get pith and fiber and all - but the taste is awful (to me). I have tried adding dates, bananas, frozen mango, all kinds of stuff - but nothing is making it more palatable. Anyone have any tips? What is your favorite way to consume grapefruit juice?

TIA!:D

I like it juiced in the Vitamix the way you describe. The flavor depends on the grapefruit. If it is too bitter, I would sweeten it with a little stevia or honey. Adding water might dilute it some, too. Adding an orange might be an interesting change.

I know this is kind of a silly question, as RawKnitster already pointed out whether or not one is more so bitter than another, but do you buy Red Grapefruits? IDK if they make a difference in nutrients. If I can get my hands on Red Grapefruit, they're soo sweet to me!! :) I am not sure what to add though, as I like it pure.

mmm Grapefruits are my fav. I juice mine in a citrus juicer, I dont get any of the pulp this way though.
I have juiced grapefruit with orange before and I really like that too.

not sure how to make it more palatable right now, but want to share that when I first went raw I hated grapefruit....I stayed away from them...now I LOVE them.....taste buds heal and change, so keep keepin' on! Sending you blessings and <3 Love!

Use pink grapefruits; add maple syrup and water. Drink really cold.

You MUST remove the grapefruit seeds to get a smooth flavor. The seeds are EXTREMELY bitter.

I use a citrus juicer and add agave unless the fruit is sweet which currently what I have is not. I usually do a large glass ~ 3/4 water, 1/4 juice. I go through about 1/2 gallon in about 3 days.

Pineapple juice might blend nicely with it.

uhh...just juice it??

if you blend it, it ceases to be juice. ;) grapefruit juice on it's own is lovely :)
its wayyyy better than the pasteurized variety

Before going raw I would NEVER touch grapefruit juice; it was just nasty. Now though, I like to juice it in a citrus juicer (I couldn't imagine blending it... ick) and then doing it in a ratio of about 3:1 water and juice. Add more water if that's still too tart for you. Eventually your tastes may change and you can drink it with less water. If not, it's still good (and good for you) that way. :)

if it doesnt taste good to you...maybe your body isnt attracted to it and doesnt want it/cant use it right now...

i have a similar prob with grapefruit. except sometimes i feel really attracted to them, like my body wants them..but then i try to eat them and they are just bitter :( even the red ones. so i dunno

I agree with just using the juice. It tastes better that way to me. I also make a smoothie with it and it's delicious, I add some cilantro, banana, pineapple, and some cinnamon, and agave or stevia.

Thank you for all of the replies! This morning is better - I added an orange and banana and frozen strawberries. I think the orange makes a big difference. I also bought some pineapple to combine - I appreciate all of the suggestions, I'm looking forward to experimenting!
