View Full Version : Beef crumbles?
I went to my first raw restaurant yesterday and had a slice of pizza. OMG, it was so good. I haven't yet tried to make the pizza recipe from LOLF, but after having the pizza yesterday it is now a priority on my list.
My slice at the restaurant consisted of a flax crust, pine nut cheese, assorted toppings and "beef crumbles." Those beef crumbles were delish. I've searched for a recipe for beef crumbles, but haven't been able to locate one. Anyone have a recipe by chance?
No idea what was in them, but they were brown, dehydrated, and had the consistency of ground beef. A little spicey too.
Thanks very much.

Possibly part of the "spicy taco" recipe.

Most beef crumbles are made with walnuts and spices. Also used in things like raw tacos! I can't remember what cookbooks I have seen the recipe in right now though - I can look it up if you need!

They're right here on RFT.
Thanks everyone. I found this recipe for taco meat posted by Baby Bird in a thread. Can't say that this is what I had though, but could be good:
Taco "Meat"
1/2 C pistachios, soaked for at least 2 hours
salt to taste
2 t. ground cumin
1 T. Chili powder
2 t. ground coriander
1/4 to 1/2 t. garlic powder
1/4 to 1/2 t. onion powder
Combine the spices and salt in a container. I used a tupperware and shook like crazy. No spoon to wash that way.
Drain the pistachios and rinse them. Place them in a bowl. Sprinkle the spice mix on top. You may not need all of it. Taste as you go along. Adjust salt as necessary.
Chop the wet, seasoned nuts in your Food processor. Aim for the consistency of ground beef. Small pieces, but not paste, in other words.
Dehydrate the chopped nuts for several hours, until they are a little dry on the outside, but still moist and chewy on the inside.

I've also done sunflower seeds, and walnuts (in case pistachios are hard to come by).
Walnut meat is GOOOD! But a once in a while thing for me (doesn't digest well!)
thanks, I called the restaurant. They wouldn't give me the recipe, but did say the base for the meat crumbles is almonds. Might give it a try this weekend.
