hey everyone,
i am not a fan of taking anything from tylenol or advil to prescribed medications, never have don't plan too but i am having SEVERE HEADACHES AND MIGRAINES. They are interfering with my life as in i don't have a life. no work, no going out, can't sleep well, even going on walks is too hard, and etc.
and i am pretty much 100% raw for A WHILEE!
can anyone relate and tell me if the raw foods helped them over come their headaches and migraines or do you still need a few advil?
also anyone recommend a form of exercise that does not trigger a headache?

Yea, I can TOTALLY relate to what you're going through!!! I've suffered from Migraines all of my life...until I did a RAW Cleanse in 2008!!!
For a while, I went back and forth on RAW. I loved how I felt when I ate RAW, but it was difficult to stick to it because of having to cook for my family. Then, I had a Migraine that lasted for 32 days STRAIGHT!!! It was HORRIBLE. I couldn't eat...couldn't sleep!!! I couldn't go to work!!! I stayed in my room all day...the slightest bit of light was unbearable!!! My doctor put me on medication to relieve it, but nothing was working!
I decided to Cleanse my Colon and get more serious about sticking to RAW. So, that's what I did. I did a juice fast for 7 days and flushed my system. On day 7, the most amazing thing happened. I had the MOST MASSIVE BM I'VE ***EVER*** HAD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE!!!!! It looked like a huge snake and wrapped around 4 times!!! I'm NOT kidding!!!! I even called my DH at work and told him about it!!! I begain to realize how import the COLON is in my health!!! After that, my Migraines were gone and they have NOT returned!!! I have NOT had a Migraine since I've done that!!! Honestly, not even a slight headache!!!
This was MAJOR for me. When I first emerged from my bedroom, it took me a while to get used to being outside again. I'll never forget it. I felt like shouting... "Stop the WORLD and let me get OFFFFF!!!!!"
Not having another Migraine is my motivation for not going back to Cooked Foods. So, try cleansing your colon and see if that works for you!!!!! :)
Wishing you Migraine-Free days!!!!!

What exactly is "pretty much raw" and how long is your "whiiile"? :)
I had really bad migraines for about 20 years, at least several times a week.
Raw foods actually wiped it away in a matter of one or two months I think.
I still haven't found out what my "trigger food" is though, I think it might be a combination even.
For a lot of people it seems that dairy is a huge one. And as little as a tiny bit of it can cause migraine attacks for some. That's why I thought that your defenition of "pretty much raw" was important since you might actually eat a few things here and there that feeds your migraine monster.

Migraines are often caused by dehydration. Try increasing your water intake and add a pinch of sea salt per litre of water. Stay away from dehydrating drinks like alcohol, pop and anything with caffeine. These will all dehydrate you further. Check out watercure.com or watercure2.org. You will be amazed at the effects of not getting enough water and/or sea salt in your diet.

My migraines stopped when I was able to balance my hormones, I haven't had a migraine in 5+ years (thank you Lord!) *Ü*

Feverfew herb tincture takes them away right away.

Hi lovenlife ~ Can you tell more about the tincture? Is this something that's home/hand made or store bought? I'd love to have some on hand for headaches. *Ü*

Deb, how did you balance your hormones?
Renee, I have had a two day migraine and it was hell..I cannot imagine more than that. You deserve some sort of award for going through that!!
I have them..but most have stopped because I found out certain foods trigger them. I made a journal and wrote down when I had the migraine and wrote down what I ate the day before and prior to the headache. Found out that sugar, chocolate, coffee, soy sauce, and many others were causing them. Even the raw chocolate does it. I am ok with carob though. So yah..just find out what is causing them. Then I wrote down what days I was having them and noticed they were also happening around my time of the month. So I realize it is also hormonal. The last few months I have not had them. I have been raw for 4 years so I am not sure why they are stopping now. I stopped having salt in my diet recently so maybe that has something to do with it. Also, I have switched over to purified water. I used to just have a filter on my faucet but I now get the ultra filtered stuff at the store. After hearing about what kinda stuff is in our drinking water I knew I had to change.
Deb, how did you balance your hormones?
Bioidential hormone replacement therapy (BHRT). ;)

When I was little I suffered from migraines all the time. My doctor told me to keep a food and beverage diary and to write down whenever I got a migraine.
I was "allergic" to all dairy and pop would also trigger them.
If I were you I would go for a cleanse like what Renee did. After that write down everything you eat and drink and find out what triggers it.

Can't help you without more information. However, I suffered daily migraines/headaches PRIOR to going Raw and still occasionally incur them - I do know some things that can help, but not without more details. :)
Some Things to Think About
How long, precisely, is "AWHILE"? Are we talking about a week, two weeks, a month, a year....? Detox doesn't finish up overnight - I've been 100% Raw now for over 4 months and I'm still phasing through some Detox.
Are you eating ALL-Raw and Living Vegan or do you still occasionally eat non-Raw, processed foods? When you are "mostly-Raw", non-Raw foods can definitely trigger headaches as it temporarily puts your Body back in Detox-mode.
What is your daily routine/lifestyle like? Are there lifestyle factors involved that you feel may be helping trigger these headaches/migraines?
Are you doing GREEN SMOOTHIES, yet? These are CRUCIAL for me, personally, for helping me ease through Detox, rid myself of stress/misc. headaches, AND keeping hydrated in a very dry environment.
Are you healing yourself of any hormonally-related condition on Raw? I am kicking Endometriosis to the curb (I am Healing... well, actually, I AM HEALED) and for a couple weeks out of every month or two, I experienced migraines and headaches that are related to the hormone imbalance that comes with Endo. The longer I'm Raw, the fewer days I experience these symptoms.
IF you are 100% Raw/Living Vegan, have you done a "Food Diary" to see if there's a Raw food that may be triggering your migraines?? For example, I get headaches if I eat too many mushrooms or if I eat raw garlic.
I hope these questions help. :)

i stopped taking any drugs at all when I went raw, including headache pills. in the early months, there were headaches from time to time, but they weaned off and now it is very very rare - to cope i told myself it was just detox, and by taking the pills I'd be setting myself back (though it's okay if I did, we have to love where we are at, always : ) the creative wisdom deep within us is truly amazing though! i now have all kinds of mechanisms to deal on the rare instances headaches do visit: like: tapping my head :p cold cloth, crystals, even putting my bare feet on the earth, even when it's snowing out...putting snow on my face in fresh air around nature is fun too. I try anything, because I know how you feel....keep rawkin'.....blessed be !
