I've been totally happy with going raw so far as I've had few of the usual detox symptoms (acne, etc.), but I've developed this very raw (not a pun ;),painful feeling in my throat. Can this be attributed to detox as well? Also, I'm a singer and need my voice, so are there any raw remedies out there to help me fix this?

thanks a million,

yellow

Hello I am unsure of remedies, curious to see what pops up too. For a couple of days I had a sore throat & certain raw foods really made it worse. I no longer have the sore throat, it kind of came with a head cold like symptoms..but no cold.

I had this, as well. It lasted for nearly a month, and was EXCRUTIATING! I tried any and everything under the sun. Finally, my professor suggested I try acupuncture. After the first session, the pain was about 75% gone. After two sessions, the pain was completely gone. Other than that, I would suggest eating more foods that help fight inflammation. Such as flax seeds, pumpkin seeds, pineapple (although if your throat IS raw, that may hurt!), garlic, and olive oil. Good luck, hun!

I find a spoonful of a really good quality raw honey (Really Raw, totally unheated and unfiltered) works for me. Soothes a sore throat or a tender stomach. I read about others using Hawaiin Manuka honey for medicinal properties, though I have not personally tried it.

I will absolutely try the raw honey. Thanks for the suggestion RawKnitster. I'm also glad to hear that this isn't totally abnormal.

Thanks everyone!

We swear by Manuka Honey in our household..for lots of things, sore throat or cough being two of them.
This is the one we use; Wedderspoon Raw Organic Organic Manuka Honey and I usually buy it from Amazon, best price I have found and free shipping.

I'm also a singer (headed to a Dress Reh. in 20 min. actually... *laughs*) so I feel your pain, literally.

This is what I do when I have a strained/raw/dry/sore throat:

HOT BATH - relaxes your muscles... I lay down in the tub so the hot water can lap over my throat and sooth it.

GREEN SMOOTHIES!!!!! These are the most healing foods I've ever discovered and they REALLY help reduce inflammation and speed up the rapid recovery!

AVOID Nuts... Some nuts cause my throat to swell if I'm already have issues. In general I have no problems with them after being mostly-RAW for a long while (and 100% Raw now for several months). But if I'm already feeling worn down, they aggravate my throat.

Water, water, WATER!!!! I drink more than I possibly know what to do with. ;)

AVOID Kombucha or fermented foods/citrus... when I'm having throat issues, these likewise aggravate the condition.

EXTRA SLEEP.... I've gone to bed with many a strained, tired throat as of late, and if I get at least 6 hrs of sleep (for me, that's ALOT) then I wake up refreshed, healthy, and with those high notes intact. :)

a really simple herbal remedy is drinking sage tea with honey and lemon, will instantly numb the pain and help to heal it too

My mom, an R.N., always suggested garggling with salt water which I have found helpful. I also like to drink AVC and honey- I find it helps with any allergy-type symptoms. There is also a wonderful tea called Throat Coat that always does the trick, although I am not sure if it is good for a singers throat! Metaphysically speaking, probalems with the throat indicate problems with change and not feeling comfortable with changes. Hope this helps.

Manuka honey VERY GOOD!

also use a neti pot, you migt have post nasal drip from sinusitis caused by a virus of bacterial infection, sometimes allergy.

Also if you want to really give your immune system a boost try something like Beta glucan supplements or something better called AHCC. Google them

Green tea with ginger and put in a tea spoon of manuka honey. Thats my remedy :-)

Gargling warm salt water does soothe temporarily! Good recommendation!

I came home from rehearsal last night near midnight with a raging sore throat and swollen glands. After guzzling my Green Smoothie, putting a warm heat pack on the back of my neck and sleeping in, I feel mostly better now. :D

I hope you figure this out! Sore throats = no fun.

the raw honey worked miracles! my sore throat isn't completely gone, but is sooo much better than it was before. i've been nursing giant mugs of tea all day, so that's been helping as well.

thank you all!
