View Full Version : teeth enamel and cavities
Hello, I want to try raw food to heal my three cavities, they are in my molars, but they are filled, do I need to have the fillings taken out by the dentist? My molars also have sealing. And I have two pieces of enamel broken off, one has a filling, I want the enamel to regrow there. What do I need to eat and do?

Greens, Greens, GREENS!!!
Get your GREEN SMOOTHIES, your GREEN JUICES, and your massive green leafy SALADS every single day.
I also recommend oil-pulling. (http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-32486-Tucson-Raw-Food-Examiner~y2010m1d8-Reducing-Teeth-Sensitivity-the-Vegan-Way#comments)

Depending on how much enamel is lost (and how deep the cavities are), there's no guarantee it can grow back--but it never hurts to try. Your best bet is to avoid any raw foods with a low pH (under-ripe citrus, lemons, limes, vinegar, grapes, etc.), load up on mineral-rich food like greens, rinse your mouth out with water (or water and baking soda) after eating fruit, minimize dried fruit and dehydrated foods (or at least floss *really* well after eating them), and avoid grazing all day long. That may seem like a lot, but the more of those things you manage to accomplish, the better off your teeth will be.
I wrote some blog posts with more tips about healing teeth and preventing damage here--there is a big list of foods and their pH values in the first one:

Once it's gone, it's gone. You are now into restorative dentistry. Recommend a check up with a credible professional in your area. Sensodyne toothpaste and ACT Fluoride can help to reduce short term hardship and sensitivity you may encounter. But for enamel after your permanent teeth are established, if the enamel goes for whatever reason, that's it. The Sensodyne and ACT will help you to feel better. But in the end, you need a dentist's call. Good luck.

Horsetail (an herb) is supposed to help teeth and bones. There is another herb that is supposed to help but I do not remember off the top of my head what it is. Typically, it is recommended as a tea but I have been putting it in my smoothies. I believe it has to do with the silica content. From what I have read/seen to-date you want to stay away from flouride and glycerin. Glycerin is in a lot of things but it is used in toothpastes to coat the teeth and give something for the flouride to stick to. Glycerin, in general, should be avoided as it coats the teeth as mentioned earlier and inhibits their ability to heal. There is still a bit of debate and you will want to do your own research but flouride is not something you want to ingest or even brush with. Topically applied flouride at the dentist is not supposed to be a big deal as you will ingest very little of it and it is only done once every so many years. I avoid it in every way I can.

Once it's gone, it's gone.
Hmmm... my gut is telling me this is not so, because I recall hearing of a few folks who healed their dental issues on Raw and with other natural remedies.
:)
Maybe one of those folks is ghosting about the forums now and will care to respond.

I've read somewhere in this forum, that your teeth can remineralize on Raw, whether or not it's true...IDK. It's going to be different for each. :)

If I were to assume that my experience extended to everyone else, I'd have to say the opposite: "TRUST RAW!!! YOUR TEETH WILL IMPROVE!!!"
:D
I had AWFUL teeth, tons of cavities, lots of pain, etc. my whole childhood and early 20's. My teeth have improved on Raw. I drink LOTS of Green Smoothies, and I go light on the citrus, and I have pretty darn healthy teeth. :D
P.S. I also practice regular OIL-PULLING! I recommend it. :)
