I ordered 2 lbs Brewer's yeast because on the site I ordered it from it said "also known as nutritional yeast" and now that I have it, I've been told that its not the same thing? I'm reeeally saddened by this because I was planning on making lots of cheezy stuffs :( I could cry.. will it work at all?

if not- what do I use all this for?

Brewer's yeast is very nutritious. Just add it to chips.

Years ago, I had never heard of nutritional yeast and used to use brewers yeast all the time. I liked it!

Supposedly though, most feel that nutritional yeast is tastier--I think it is ---slightly. Brewers yeast is made as a by-product of brewing beer, whereas nut. yst is made as a supplement.

Both are good sources of aminos and B vites, but brewers yeast tends to have more chromium ---good for blood sugar...

All I can think of for now...I found some of this by doing a search for:
difference brewers yeast nutritional yeast

Aww, I'm sorry Amy. Don't feel bad, it sounds like you can still use it. I don't have enough knowledge about brewer's yeast to lend to this discussion, but I hope it works out for you!

I have used both and they are not that different generally, but the flavour is really different! Nutritional yeast is like cheesy-flavoured flakes, and brewers yeast is a dark bitter powder. They both provide lots of B vitamins!

I eat brewers yeast right now because it increases breast milk production and I am breastfeeding. It is also very nutritious which is a bonus :) I don't really like the flavour (though some do!) so I put it in my snacking cookies and I love them.

The brewer's yeast I used to buy was very tasty. I don't remember the brand now but I remember it was much more expensive than other brands.

thanks for all the info ladies! I suppose I'll use all 2 lbs of it first. :( I guess my cheez its might have to be less cheezy. I am breastfeeding so I suppose that can be good.

You are breastfeeding! Wow thats handy you got so much brewers yeast then - its really excellent for supply. I have been eating it since I started bf 3 months ago and its really helped. I am worried about maintaing my supply since my weight has dropped so much from bf - and I am eating sooo many calories - well over 3000/day! yikes!

If you are looking for that cheezy flavour though, I would probably buy some nutritional yeast as well. It has a cheezy flavour for sure. They sell it in regular grocery stores here as well as health food stores.
