View Full Version : My doctor just ordered several blood tests

When she found out what I was eating, or rather, what I was not eating, she became concerned and ordered tests for B-12, Vitamin D and a bone density scan. She asked me where I was getting my protein and I just drew a blank concerning everything that I've read concerning eating raw and the subjects of protein and calcium intake. I just sat there numbly with no argument whatsoever when she told me I should be taking in dairy products. I just smiled. It was like taking a quiz and not knowing the answers.

I guess I'll wait to see what the lab results say and go from there.

90 days raw as of today!

If the lab results come back fine, your doctor won't be able to get on your case about what you eat -- and may even learn a thing or two about nutrition.

If the lab results show you're low in something, you'll know what area of your diet to improve or supplement for even better health.

It's a win-win situation! :) It's always a little embarrassing to freeze up like that (and then think of an answer AFTER it's too late), but a blood test sure won't harm ya and it can be an interesting way to track the effects of raw over time. Let us know what the results are when you get them; I'm curious. :)

Have you ever had these tests done before? Before you started raw? I ask because even if it does come back showing deficiencies in some area doesn't mean it's because your rawfood diet is lacking in something. A lot of SAD eaters are deficient in Vitamin D, for example.

Doctors should not be allowed to administer nutrition advice to the public. Good luck!

Just remember that your Doctor has less nutritional training than you do, at this point. :) Doctors are not trained to give nutritional advise. She is useful in your life for diagnoses and trauma care, and little else.

For nutrition and health, your BODY is your best Physician. :)

This is a BRILLIANT perspective. I second this heartily!!!
