I bought some supposedly "raw" fruit bars today. Here's a list of ingredients in one:

"Raw dates, oats, raw raisins, raw peanuts, apple juice, raw raspberries, raw almonds, raw walnuts, raw strawberries, a hint of natural flavour".

Maybe my parents just like to ruin and sabotage everything I do with food but one of my parents read the label and pointed out that the label also says "contains naturally occurring fruit sugars". I said "well they will do, it's got FRUIT in it". And then they said "Do you believe everything you read? That's a codeword for something else that they don't want to list in the ingredients."

Is this person just being pedantic and mean or are they right? Is this product raw and healthy?

The label also reads "Nothing artificial - no added sugars, syrups, wheat, dairy of GMO. Cold pressed, never baked"

:S

The company is obligated by the FDA to list all ingredients. They can't hide an ingredient in there and not put it on the label. If it doesn't say something like "evaporated cane juice" or "cane sugar" or "high fructose corn syrup," then there isn't any added sugar... just the sugars already in the fruit, as you said.

It sounds like the bar is mostly raw but not all raw. The oats are probably heated (unless they're specified otherwise). What's the brand?

The "hint of natural flavor" confuses me. What does that mean? All the foods in it have "flavor" so what is that?

I'm wondering why your parents are so worried about it anyway!!

Good grief - it's not like it's a Hostess Twinkie for cryin' out loud. Maybe we should whip some of their food labels under the microscope - ha! *Ü*

The product is not raw but, it is healthy. I presume you are talking about Nakd bars? They don't contain any sugar only fruit and oats. Your parents obviously don't have a bees what they are talking about. They are probably thinking of other bars that say fat/sugar/colours free, and usually have lots of additives.
The oats in the nakd bars aren't raw but all their other ingredients are and I eat them on occasion.

Very few raw bars are 100% Raw. However, if you're simply concerned with a healthy alternative to SAD snacks, and you're not stressing 100% Raw, then ENJOY THE RAW BARS!!!! They're a world and a half better than any SAD snacks out there.

Before investing myself in 100% raw/living foods (for healing of a serious condition), I used to regularly take delight in Larabars, the peanut butter variety (60% Raw) and the chocolate toffee flavor (80-90% Raw).... Yummm!!!

Amii, find joy in your journey. Let the criticisms and nit-picking ride over and behind you like a salty sea wave, and just bask in the glittering sunlight of RAW....

Also, recognize that your parents are programmed by our culture to call everything that is NOT mainstream/medically or FDA-approved into question for you, as regards food and health. If a Doctor didn't tell them to tell you to do it, chances are they're afraid to tell you it's okay!

But this doesn't make them fools or evil. They are simply ill-advised/ill-informed... On that note, realise that YOUR attitude about Raw and Life, AND your attitude towards your parents is ALL that is in your Power when you're living at home.

Let YOUR attitude reflect light, abundance, raw generosity, and kindness regardless the opinions of others.... and eventually you may even notice that those around you begin reflecting YOUR light back TO you.... if they do, it's a gift, if they don't, who cares! You still get to be happy. :D
