Hi im 14 i just started the raw food diet about 5 months ago. i have been vegetarian a couple years for the sake of animals but i ate food that was not that healthy :o. i would get some breakouts and i used creams and facials which worked pretty well but it wasnt perfect i also took antibiotics.

so now that im mostly raw, my ingrown hairs i had are completely healed, my acne on my back is gone and better then when i used creams for it so thats great :), my stretch marks are healing really well, my skin is softer, but theres one problem i still have acne on face. and its even worse then before

after a couple months my skin was almost perfect exept a couple small ones and some marks but its was definitly improved. but now its coming back alot and i dont know why. i figure it detox but i wanted some help here.

i use tea tree oil, olive oil, clay masks, lemon juice on my skin. i started oil pulling today. i eat mostly veggies and ive been craving oranges but i dont eat more then a couple a day because of the sugar and i eat grapefriuts too and berries.recently i stay away from eating a lot of fruit and high sugar fruits and dont eat any agave or honey or dried fruits (besides some goji berries) recently because i think that would help my skin. ive been eating cucumbers and radishes a lot. i drink A LOT of green and herbal detox teas. i drink a good amount of filtered water with lemon juice. i eat some small amounts brown rice and steamed vegetables because if i dont i overeat nuts and then get too constipated and horrible cramps. oh yeah and i eat little amounts of soaked nuts and also seeds (usually just nut and seed butter that i make myself). i dont eat any type of soy or wheat. i drink a few bottles of kombucha a week. i eat sourkraut and have been taking cod liver oil too.

i also get headaches alot, emotional easily and (sorry for saying this because its a little gross but..) mucus-like thingies in my stools...?

so any ideas on why i have acne now? it seems the better my diet gets the worse my skin does. *sigh* im not too stressed about because i figure my body does what it needs to do but i just wish my skin can heal soon so i can be happy. or maybe theres some problem or reason why have acne that i dont know about. i know my age(the hormones) has to do with it too. any ideas or help please
i was thinking about taking more probiotics like threelac or dr. ohhira's also.

Hello Crystal, welcome to this lovely corner of the Raw World!!!!

I noticed the same issue with my own facial acne (mild, in my case, but still aggravating!) and the last few days I've been doing Oil Cleansing. Check out this RFT thread (http://rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=58302) because it has lots of good info for skin care AND it has a link to Oil Cleansing.

You know what I finally figured out, after nearly 130 days now of 100% Raw foods?

My skin was trying to DETOX the chemical-based Facial Cleansers I was still using!!! So rather than eliminating acne, my St. Ives face wash was CAUSING ACNE!!! :D

Now my skin is starting to clear and I've thrown out the SAD skin care for good. :)

And one more thing... get a copy of Alissa Cohen's book +DVD's: LIVING ON LIVE FOODS....!!!! Do this TODAY!!! :D

You are limiting yourself so much in your Diet right now and ESPECIALLY when you are 14 years old, there is NO need to be so strict.... Raw is EASY, FUN, and there's so much FREEDOM for us young folks on this "diet"! In fact, it's not even a diet. It's just a really fun, healthy alternative to crappy junk food!!! :D

thanks. i use just dr. bronners to wash my face. i dont think that causes it. do you thin ki should use nothing on my face at all? when you say im missing out and i dont need to be so strict, what do you mean? i mean, ive made tons of fancy yummy raw recipes but i feel better when i eat simpler. today is my first day of oil pulling. im going to do it again tonight.
also, have you tried castor oil on the skin. does it work well?

And to answer your other questions, I'm just going to say again... you really need to get Alissa Cohen's book. ;)
