Yea I Know, buy Alissa's Book.
No beans, unless soaked & than they grow their own sprouts? How does that work? No soy beans, got it. No Kidney beans because they're toxic Raw unless cooked. Got it. I've got Chick Peas (Garbanzo Beans) & Black Beans left.
Peanuts? are toxic...? or just too fatty? Something to do with too many chemicals?

Why do you need any of those things. If a food can not be eaten raw then it was not meant for human consumption.
Just ask yourself if the original humans would have eaten it and if the answer is no, then leave it.
Peanuts tend to have aflatoxin which is a cancer causing substance

I don't know if I needed any of those things. I was only asking. :) I thought Raw Foodists ate nuts, but I am finding that peanuts are not consumed, but almonds are, & Macadamians are, & so are Walnuts, & Pecans, yet not peanuts. & that a lot eat Cashews, but they're not Raw because of the process they go through to get to the actual nut. So I was only merrily asking. :)
I don't know what *ORIGINAL HUMANS* is per se... if we're getting techincal. Is there a document of study on this forum that dates back to what *ORIGINAL HUMANS* consumed. I mean, IDK I was just asking.
Okay Thank You for that:>>Peanuts tend to have aflatoxin which is a cancer causing substance.

I eat peanuts. I don't know why they have such a bad rap but if you look up aflatoxin, there are quite a few foods that potentially have it. I've never had a bad occurrence after eating raw peanuts.

I think, in these circumstances and points, it is best to listen to your own body. Do you feel good after eating peanuts?

Or, did you die from the aflatoxin scare? Question is, "how do you feel after eating ANYthing?"

Peanuts are actually a legume (not a true nut like the other tree nuts you mentioned), so that's part of the confusion. Cashews are heated to extreme temperatures to open the shell, which is why they are not technically raw. Hope that helps and good luck :)

I think that the ones that we get that are certified raw are extracted at a health cost to the workers so I feel guilty if I eat them.

Well, if you have eaten peanuts before, then they are not suddenly going to kill you. I feel bad when I eat wheat. I feel good when I eat say, a banana. I don't like peanuts so I don't really eat them.

I eat raw cashews - and yes, the variety I buy really are raw. :) I have no health reactions whatsoever to them and find them a delicious addition to many foods... and since they're recommended and used in several Alissa recipes, they're OK on this Board. ;)
This Board is, after all, here because of her Books + DVD's, and it's Alissa Cohen's "rules" we're encouraged to follow around here. :) If you haven't read her book, her #1 Rule is LISTEN TO YOUR BODY.... not someone else's Body. *wink*
Because Raw living is a fairly new phenomenon, SO MUCH of it is personal experimentation... you can ask questions all day long, but with some of the stuff, it boils down to what YOU choose to do and can handle for yourself. 99% of the posters here (including me) can only offer their OPINION about so much of this stuff.
What the heck does "Listen to Your Body" mean?????
Simple: tune in to your body's reaction or response to different raw foods and other lifestyle changes.
Ex: If peanuts affect you negatively, avoid them. Same with any of the "questionable raw foods" that so many love to bash. ;)
In other news....
I just made a lovely batch of sprouted chickpea hummus based on Alissa's recipe and it was YUMMMMMMMM... been sharing it with friends at School and everyone there liked it, too.

My point exactly. Um, even if I've not eaten peanuts before they'll probably not suddenly kill me.
