How to Open a Coconut...in Hawaii!!!!

Hey everyone!!!

I'm way down in HAWAII for a few days to visit a friend!!! Of course, it's just AMAZING here!!!!

Every house has a COCONUT Tree!!! Surprised, right!!! Well, here's how to open one...Hawaiian Style!!!!

The pole he's using has a point on it...

Inside the first layer, it was really wet....

Inside the hard shell, the "meat" was thick and firm. The water was the Sweetest I've EVER tasted!!!! Delicious!!!!

I went to the ONLY Whole Foods on the island and got the Biggest, Juiciest Portabellas ever and Nama Shoyu!!! I made Marinated Portabellas for my friend and her family...which was a HUGE hit!!! I also introduced them to Spinach Smoothies!!! (thankfully my friend has a blender....but BOY DO I MISS MY VITAMIX!!!!!)

Also, the Pineapple is SO SWEET!!! Gotta bring some back to the mainland!!!!! It kinda "burned" my tongue...but, BABY IT HURT SO GOOOOD!!!!!! :-D

I am in the Houston area too, but on the northwest side of town, nice to see I am not the only houstonian on here..my friends seem to think raw fooders are very rare to non existent, except me..now I can tell them about you..

Hawaii is one of my favorite places in the whole world!!! Isn't it awesome how you can actually smell the flowers as soon as you get off the plane!! My daughter used to be a UAL flight attendant, so my husband and I flew there FREE (standby:() four times! I was a travel agent at the time, so we got some terrific agent rates at some awesome hotels right on the beach. I could spend my life on Waikiki Beach!:D When you're sitting on the balcony watching the surfers, you just KNOW you're in Hawaii - there is Hawaiian (ukelele) music playing everywhere and OH - that amazing smell of flowers!! And OH - the amazing fresh fruit everywhere!!! The best coconut and pineapple I have EVER tasted!! Oh man - what am I doing here in Buffalo looking out at all this snow!! Ha! Ha! Have a wonderful time!! (And try to track down Starfire while you're there!! I miss her!!)

I know, RIGHT!!! I was hoping she would see this and chime in so I could meet her while I'm here.... I tried to find her, but she's not on the teachers site and I don't know her real name.....

Anyway, had a not so great Salad today...what's up with the healthy food 'round here!!!! Hello...it's an ISLAND people!!!! Everyone here has terrible diets!!! Worse than I expected!!! But, I DID find a Jamba Juice.... Been there 4 times ALREADY!!! LOL!!!! They KNOW me there now!!!! LOL!!!!!

I SOOOO am!!! I just made Stuffed Portabella (w Guac) and marinated Broccoli Salad for dinner!

My friend is learning so much and loving RAW!!! I don't know if she'll stay with it, but it's been a great week!!! And I've had so much fun!!! I wanna take some Coconut with me, but gotta go thru Agriculture, so not sure I'll be able to do it....

If you're on Maui, try to go to Twin Falls..it's on the Road to Hana side. They are a raw food community!!! it's so beautiful there...most of it is!!!
