View Full Version : Blood results back after 3.5 months raw

This is what I posted in my journal:

I got my blood test results back. The Naturopath called and was all in a tizzy. "I need to see you, things need to be worked on." I told her I was not going to change anything I was currently doing until I lost all this weight. Then we would do more blood work and go from there. She agreed to fax me the results, but thought I should still be seen. Ahh, the supplement pushers of the world. I may have two problems I need to work on, my liver which is getting worse and I have too high a prolactin output.

I'm going to try and post 3 sets of results. My SAD results, my 3 months Vegan results and my 3.5 months Raw results. Along with the reference range of only those I have had or still have problems with. The * means it's within range. I don't have all the results from my Vegan test, I thought I did but can't find anything but the summary of out of range page.

Test......................Ref Range.................SAD..........Vegan........Ra w
TSH (Thyroid)...........45-4.5.................... 6.7H......... --- ........ .16L
Prolactin..................3.3-26.7..................32.0H......... ---.........43.3H
Glucose...................65-99......................100H...........102H....... ..91*
Urea Nitrogen (protien).. 8-25....................18*............ --- ........ 7L
Uric Acid.................2.2-6.5.....................7.2H............8.1H...... .9.0H
Cholesterol..............<200........................264H...........210H.... ...201H
Triglycerides............<150........................203H...........270H.... ...164H
LDL Chol Calc.........>130........................184H..........134H..... ...131H
VLDL Chol..............0-29.........................34H...........45H...... .....27*
Chol/HDL Ratio..........<4.5........................5.7H...........6.8H.... .....4.7H
ALT (Liver)...............2-4.6.......................48H............74H...... ....77H
AST(Liver)...............10-41.......................18*.............---..........74H
Iron........................35-175.....................75*.............---...........95*
TIBC (Iron)..............250-400...................343*............---..........246L
Hemoglobin A1c ..........<6.0.....................5.8*............6.3H...... ..6.0H
(Diabetes)

I don't know what she was so upset about. Things look like they are getting better to me. I would expect the lower protien, but hey, 1 point below what they think is normal can't be bad. The increase in Uric acid is understandable because I'm losing weight so fast. The cholesterol was disappointing. I was sure that was going to come back in the low hundreds. But I'm only 2 points over acceptable.

My liver is obviously going to need a lot more work. I could be over taxing it with the cleansing out of all this fat. It hasn't bothered me all month, so these results were surprising.

Anyway, I thought I would post these. True facts, nothing to go "Wow, raw is amazing," but let me add...my father died from diabetes. He gave up living 15 years before that. I'm real happy that I'm headed backward on that path. Even though the naturopath circled my triglyceride numbers many times, she must be nuts they have gone down considerably. She wrote next to that number "too many fruits and starch." So maybe I should go back to a SAD diet and jack them up by 30 points. Beside they are only 15 points over and I've just begun healing.

It will be interesting to see these results again in January or February when I am done losing weight and am a healthy raw.

That is great - in raw, I found that my numbers were not good at first, then they got better - my body was adjusting and it had to catch up with the changes. Stick to it, and you will be very successful. You are a conqueror!

Carlene,
Congratulations! I agree, the numbers are pointing in the right direction and I would be very happy with the 3.5 month raw results. Your body is still transitioning and catching up. Like you said you've just begun healing. Just think what these numbers will be at 6 months raw!

Wow - a 60 point drop in cholesterol - that is absolutely excellent (jealous here :o ). Looks like you need to see another health professional - one that is more positive about your positive changes.

Just remember the range for protein is probably measured for meat eaters.

You may want to consider that your liver readings could be high due to your detox. Everything detoxes through the liver so there could possibly be a lot of activity going on there for a short period of time.

Congrats on the progress!! Too much fruits? Whenever someone says that a red flag goes up with me. Like someone else suggested, lets see what happens after 6 months raw. I think that "naturalpath" will be surprised.

Peace.

More wonderful results for you Carlene. I think the changes are wonderful. And even more wonderful is your understanding of what your body is doing and the process of detoxification. I have to wonder, all those ranges I am sure were established for cooked SAD eaters. And so how do we know those are truly the ranges it is healthy to be in?

These blood tests have not been the model for very long and man lived most of his history without lab work to confirm things, though I am sure they serve a valuable purpose of course. Keep listening to your own body, for you know best here.

I am so very proud of you and your effort and passion. You are such an inspiration to us all!

Many Blessings~
