so some of you may remember that I've struggled with keeping up the organic end of things due to price and convenience.
we have a very nice, affordable local fruit and veg place. They have added in a small organic section - so I'm glad to see that - but the variety is not much. they have a very wide selection of produce, 10+ kinds of apples, 5 kinds of pears, lots of more exotic veggies, like kohlrabi, cardone, fresh fava beans, large aloe leaves, etc.
I try to travel to a place about 7 miles away, they have a large selection of organics that are reasonably priced, but the trip is trying ot say the least in an urban, traffic jammed kind of way. But i usually try to buy all my greens there....
So recently - I was at the local place - just picking up some salad stuff - so I grabbed some kale - it was that - or no smoothie in the morning.
I was so delighted with this kale! It was small whole heads, very fresh clean and green, the organic kale at the other store is old really big leaves that are tougher and more of a greyish color. Sometimes, it's been so dirty I opt for another green.
As some of you may know - and some may not, the "organic" label is being hijacked by larger agribusinesses. They are lobbying to lower the standards for certification to cash in, while many traditional - truly organic - growers can't afford the certification process.
Wanted to open this up for discussion here - I certainly prefer healthy fresh clean food over minimally making the "certification" and not enriching the soil properly so that the crops can reach their maxixmum nutrient capacities.
If I could just find out about the suppliers to the local place....
