Hi everyone- I'm considering going raw for a few reasons. Of course, if making the change, I know I'd feel more grounded, more connected with the earth, and my health would improve vastly.
That said... so many of you write about your dramatic body changes. I'm wondering if anyone who was already thin to begin with experienced a drop in weight. Can anyone speak to this?
I'm wouldn't go raw TO lose weight, but I'd be happy if 5-10lbs shed as the simple result of the change in diet. I'm 5'2 and about 115lbs and quite healthy to begin with.
Thanks everyone for your help!!

Steve Pavlina, who was already in good health before he started a 30 day trial of the raw food diet, lost 8 pounds in 30 days. His raw food intake was low fat and mostly fruits and some veggies averaging around 2,500 calories per day. You can see his analysis of the 30 day trial here... http://www.stevepavlina.com/blog/2008/02/raw-food-diet/
I, on the other hand, lost 25 pounds in 30 days when going raw. My raw food intake was also mostly fruits with a lot of fats from avocados and almonds. I also had four cheat meals during those 30 days. I'm 6'3'' and went from 249 to 224 in my first 30 days(just completed this past Tuesday).
My guess is that you will lose 5-10 pounds. Give it a try for 30 days and see what happens.
All the best Molly!

A handful of experts will suggest that EVERYONE will lose weight to begin with (up to 20 lbs dropped is standard, but for thinner folks I've heard 5-10 lbs is pretty normal) because your body will be shedding toxins and waste build-up, which is heavier than we know. :)
That being said, I actually GAINED weight on Raw. I was 5'3.5" and 110 when I started 100% in 2008, and in 6 months of 100% that year, gained 13lbs and felt like a girl again. I had was a twig at that height/weight. :)
This go around, I was eating more fresh foods, less almond shakes, and I lost weight again... I'm 5' 5" and I haven't weighed myself lately but the last time I checked, I was hovering around 115 lbs. At this point, I'm likely smaller, which is fine with me until my body stabilizes, then I will be happy to regain some weight and fill out a little.
I'm no longer obsessed with thin -- I don't need to see my ribs to be happy with my life. ;)
