Will a green smoothie fast have much greater healing power than a mixed raw food diet (eating whatever suits one's taste and mood at the time)? The reasons?
Thanks in advance for replies.

Well, its been said that if you have poor digestion, that readily "digested" food (ala blended) would be ideal for you. Also, if you have problems integrating enough greens into your regimen, green smoothies could be a good solution.

Its hard to say one is better than the other though, there are as many ways to eat raw foods as there are raw foodists, one must find whatever works for their situation.

I'd say a well-planned raw diet aught to include either serious greens or green smoothies anyway, so if you follow a raw diet with lots of greens, you will likely not crave other things as much, and then it can be equally effective as a green-smoothie fast.

I believe fasting has its place as a healthy, healing, wholly natural break from food.

But as to whether fasting is more healing than intuitive raw? I can't really say. I have experienced more CLARITY when fasting/green smoothie feasting, but I don't know if I've experienced more HEALING, necessarily...

I can't wait to read more replies on this, though...

If you eliminate any overt fats or proteins then a green smoothie fast, would of course be a quicker cleanse because your body would go into autolysis, whereas it wouldn't if you were just eating intuitively raw and eating nuts etc.

Nevertheless, there is a lot to be said for slowly cleansing by cleaning up your diet and just eating intuitively raw....

My thoughts....

only you and your body can answer that one for you. if fasting brings you peace... and it's something you want to do... then it can bring your great health and healing. but... if fasting brings you angst and frustration... then i can't imagine your body doing any real healing.

why not a blend of both? a gorgeous green smoothie in the morning... a wonderful salad for lunch and then a green smoothie with dinner?

bottom line though: blended foods are way more digestible because the cell walls are broken and your body can absorb more nutrients than with chewing alone... so yes, green smoothies would probably bring your healing faster (in my opinion).

Marykay, can you explain this a little more?

Autolysis is when lysosomes (little floating bubbles) in cells release enzymes which break-down either the cell or its components. This does not happen as a result of drinking green smoothies, this happens, for example, when a cell is damaged or invaded by foreign material and needs to be destroyed. I don't have any idea where she got her information from.

I think it depends on your goals. If you are looking for an effective and quick way to rid your body of disease ideally you would be consuming more living foods and greens. Smoothies make that easy, and they give your digestion system somewhat of a rest so that energy can be directed to towards healing.

Thanks to everyone for insights.

I actually did a green smoothie fast today. The only green I used was fresh wheatgrass juice. I felt calm, partly because I didn't have to think about fixing any food other than smoothies. I plan to do this for two more days.

T-Bird and Skier,

Many of the old-time fasters believed in autolysis as the body's tool to destroy "bad cells."
Google: Paavo Airola PhD fasting autolysis

They feel it does not begin until approx day four or five of a fast. I even remember a study on whether men or women go into autolysis first, and I've forgotten which one did.....
