Hi everyone! I'm 3 weeks into my journey to eating as much raw food as I can. I've been reading everything I can get my hands on. I got a book at the library which talks about the importance of food combining. My question is, how important is it to be combining raw food properly? Like not mixing fruit with anything else, for example. It seems as though there are many people mixing fruits, nuts, veggies, dried fruits and seeds in one meal. I just want to make sure this is ok to do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. :D

Whatever you want to do is fine with us. It's your food, your bodies.

Now, IF you find doing that doesn't cause gas, indigestion, etc. carry on as you are. IF you find it does cause the above, then, you might want to follow some of the suggestions in the food combining charts.

As you go along in your journey, your body will tell you more and more what makes it feel good and what doesn't soooo, stop doing what doesn't and do something different.

Many, many years ago, before we had a chart telling us what we "should" or "shouldn't" do, we ate what we could find; what was available when it was found/available. Just like cockroaches we seem to have survived all this.

Suggestion: play with your food. Enjoy your food. Enjoy your journey. :)

Only one thing to add.. listen to your body. If your body says it doesn't like the combination of something.. don't do it! =D

Definetly listen to your body. When I first started raw I had no problem with food combining then after like 6mnths I all the sudden became more sensitive to eat so I ate more mono like then after doing that for about 6 mnths my body was fine to combine again.

I think the body goes through phases just pay attention to it :)

The simpler I make my meal the better my digestion is.

That's where my body is at too! It doesn't like many nuts....& if it does it's cashews & that's it! It's amazing what our body tells us.

I made icecream sandwhiches last night & they were delicious but I gotta tell ya it's almost not worth it the next day b/c all the food combining isn't settling well with my digestive tract!

Thank you so much everyone for your input. This has been a confusing part for me in switching over to raw. I want to do the easiest thing for my body but sometimes these recipes look so good that don't following the combining rules. It's hard to pass up. I am trying hard to focus on what my body is telling me. Is there one food combining rule that you ALWAYS follow?

I think it's subjective, to each their own, as we are all VERY different. LISTEN TO WHAT YOUR BODY TELLS YOU! :) Give it some time, & you'll figure it out.

We now understand that the stomach is a constant acid environment and the small intestine is a strongly alkaline environment. and foods, raw vegan foods include all types of macronutrients, protein, fat and carbohydrates. So not mixing proteins and carbs is something of a myth. greens, fruit have protein. I agree with listen to your body. But please ignore food combining "rules". Or at least research them on the web and make your own conclusions. Food combining is bunk! http://www.drmirkin.com/nutrition/N241.html
