Mmm..sounds yummy. My list usually consists of this: 3 heads romaine, 1 head iceberg (for my son and his sammiches. lol He's not raw), about 5 tomatoes, 3 cucumbers, 1 bag spinach, 1 head kale, 3-4 bunches bananas, about 8 apples, 6 oranges, red and green peppers, avocado and anything else I might need. Spring and summer will include more peaches, nectarines, berries..etc.
Now that I have Alissa's book, I see that I need to broaden my purchases so I can start making her recipes. :) I also definitely need a food processor and a new blender, as my current blender just will not cut it for much else except smoothies. lol
As I'm still learning, I have a question or two that your list brought about.
-1 container of almond milk (Is this the one from Almond Dreams or some such brand, the premade one? If so...is this truly raw and allowed? That'd be nifty if it was. My mom doesn't really drink a lot of dairy, which is good, but she does buy the unsweetened Almond milk in place of regular milk and likes it very much. :) She tried it at my suggestion, and I like to make my own but I just want to know if she's doing the right thing. She's a diabetic and on coumadin, and does not eat well unless she is here at my house. Whenever she's here I always stuff her full of veggies and salads. lol
-1 bag of flax seeds (Where do you get these from, as well as the beans and seeds, wheatberry, etc...that are needed for sprouting? Online? Supermarket? Specialty store?
Thanks!
Happy Rawness!

No, not raw, which is just as well because homemade almond milk is about 1000x better anyway. Just blend 1 C almonds, soaked 24 hours, with 3 cups water for "whole" milk and 4 cups water for "2%" milk, along with either 2 tbsp agave or 2-4 dates, and a pinch of vanilla is always good as well. Strain through paper towels or cheesecloth or a nut-milk bag and enjoy.

Congratulations!! I went food shopping today too. I am pretty new as well, I started eating mostly raw about a month ago. But I am already seeing a lot of improvement in how I'm feeling overall and my moods and my acne. This is what I bought:
3 avocados
5 pears
5 bananas
5 apples
2 pineapples
1 mango
bag of chives
bag of baby carrots
3-4 turnips
two bags of spinach for smoothies
two bags of romaine lettuce for salads
10 pounds of raw almonds
4 tomatoes
this stuff lasts me for a week but usually I always have something left over. But I want to be on the safe side since I don't have time to go shopping again during the week.
Usually I make my smoothies with a banana, a pear, some pineapple and spinach. I eat an apple and carrots as a snack and then my lettuce, tomato, chives, turnips and avocados go in salads with some olive oil and vinegar.
I eat exclusively raw when I eat at home, but occasionally if I get invited over at a friends house or if I'm eating out with my boyfriend then I'll eat cooked too, which usually happens every weekend unfortunately ..
I have a question about the flax seeds too, where do you normally find those? I really want some but I have no health food stores around me. Do regular grocery stores carry them and what aisle are they typically next to? I heard they're next to coffee but I haven't been able to find them there...

Hey guys I didn't realize that almond milk was not raw :( someone had sugggested it before in a smoothies and I had assumed it was. Whoops. I don't have many health food stores out here myself I just went to a regular grocery store. Does your grocery store have a vegan or healthy foods section? This is where I got them and there was a section where there were bagged grains and such. It was near them.

couldn't you maybe find flax seeds at a local food coop? I am not sure, I have never bought any, but I know years ago I bought seeds for sprouts at one downtown...

There might be bags of flax seeds at the regular stores on the baking aisle. Not really sure because I've never bought any there.
Check out the HappyCow site. It will give you a listing of all the health food stores nearby. There may be a store tucked away somewhere in your town that you don't even know about.
Whoever suggested almond milk for smoothies may have meant the raw version. I use it in mine all the time. It's easy to make and tastes great.

Oh...the homemade version of almond milk is definitely raw. I just wasn't certain about the kind that you purchase in the store, because I figured it must have been processed in some manner. :)

Technically speaking "raw" almond milk probaby isn't raw either unless you special order the almonds off the internet. Almonds sold as "raw" in your bulk bins at the grocery have been pasteurized. Although I'm sure it's healthier than the processed stuff sold in a carton and sitting on the shelf for a year.

This is true. I buy 10-lb. boxes of raw unpasteurized CA almonds online, though for a newbie I'm sure soaking pasteurized ones is still better than eating something that came in a Tetra-Pak.

I don't know if it's just me but I feel weird ordering food online...I am just scared I'll come across something really bad that will make me sick, since I don't know how well these online stores are regulated ...

I get whole flax seeds in the bulk section at Fred Meyer (Washington and Oregon) Whole foods has them too. Costco sells ground flax seeds in a double bag package which is nice if you want to not have "seeds". Its more a flour.
I bought a big bag of walnuts there also. Most of their other nuts are not raw.
