So I was selfishly wavering on the raw foods diet and how maybe I didn't want to give up my favorite foods pies.. cookies...cheeseburgers...
THEN I saw a scary episode (today 2/4) of Oprah. She had doctor Oz on her show about how dangerous diabetes is. Which is obvious, but I had always kind of blocked it out. It was very in depth and graphic.
So, moral of the story, if in doubt of raw foods..and you want comfort I suggest watching Food Inc, This episode of Oprah and watch a Paula Deen cooking show episode.. her food looks absolutely grotesque. No matter how hungry I am... I always want to vomit when I see what comes out of her pans.

I don't crave junk food, but I think I'll watch a Paula Deen show now just out of curiosity...
Reinforcing how gross cooked food is is great (Nature's First Law says that once you associate more pain than pleasure with eating cooked, you've succeeded), but it's better to create raw food that just BLOWS THE COOKED VERSION AWAY. Mango pie with a coconut-date or almond-date crust... that should get rid of junk cravings pretty fast :D

On the same continuum with taking advice from an overweight and/or unhealthy doctor. Sad...but true.

Oh I don't disagree. Even when I was a SAD person I couldn't wrap my brain around all the butter she uses. But it's like a trainwreck...I just can't look away when she's piling it all on. :p

I know, its like, I'm counting the heart attacks in my mind with each extra "pat" (more like 1/2 stick) that she "tosses in" at the end hahahaha
Watch "Food Inc." and read The Food Revolution by John Robbins. They may change your way of thinking.
To me, Paula Dean doesn't even look healthy. I don't know how she promotes her business, but she's certainly gotten rich from it.

Food Inc was EXCELLENT. Really opens your mind up to what is hidden to us; that we have EVERY right to know! I will have to check out the book you mentioned! :-)

I have to tell ya'll that my family is very heavy and they think I'm too thin, granted I put on some weight over the holidays but my family is very unhealthy. I invited some of them to come visit and they said what will we eat at your house???? I said real food!!! I realize they are on their own journey and leave it at that.

I never see it as giving up a certain food: I see it as replacing the food. If I want cake that badly, I say to myself just go and buy some. And then I question myself: how badly do I really want it? And most of the time I decide, it isn't all that necessary.
Having one piece of cake doesn't ruin anything. For me, and this is probably different for others, but raw food is about the benefits you get from eating raw food itself, not about benefits you get from limiting other foods. To me, other foods are not toxic, poison, or whatever some people say they are, they simply aren't as good. While they don't help me, they certainly don't hurt me either if I am eating it only occasionally while still maintaining a mostly raw food diet.
