i should try makin raw soups but they allways come out crap, ive tried gazpacho like 10 times its allways nasty......

onetime i made a cucumber and avocado raw soup that was ok but id rather have just eaten an avocado......

Your post sucks. ;)

But no really, you seem almost angry about soup. :D

Honey, it's SOUP.... if one recipe taste awful, pitch it and try another!!! My wise teacher always says, "Don't cry over anything that can't cry back."

:D

Then try this recipe and enjoy a DELICIOUS raw soup....

Green Woman's Tomato Soup

2 Roma Tomatoes or 1 large Beefsteak Tomato
1 T. cold-pressed olive oil
1/3 c. cashews
1 T. Bragg's
1 pinch Sea Salt

Blend in your Vitamix on high speed until thick, creamy and warm. Serve immediately and sprinkle top with Nutritional Yeast for a cheezy touch!

Cooked soup s**ks. It's probably the salt, I've done low salt for awhile and then I went back to salty foods and my hands swelled up and hurt. Maybe adding the avocado to the soup would help.

If you'd rather just eat food whole, go for it and forget about the soups. It's actually better to chew food instead of blending it. Blending destroys a lot of nutrients through oxidization. Just don't feel that you're weird if you don't like raw soup.

Blending destroys a lot of nutrients through oxidization

Oh? *raises eyebrow*

Interesting philosophy. Are you perhaps thinking juicing?

Blending is actually quite a healthy option, as it breaks down the food and "pre-digests" it so that it's easier for our bodies to use the nutrients in the food. That is particularly true of green smoothies.

I love my raw 'stews'

Base:
tomatoes
celery
cucumber/zucchini
then add as much leafy green as you can handle. blend till smooth :)

then add whatever herbs, spices or other veggies(either blend or chop them up for a chunky soup)

From a fellow Torontonian:
I tend to do the same, just eat the food.

However, soup is kind of a traditional comfort food and many people really enjoy it. My husband is one of those. He also happens to have trouble chewing hard things so it makes it that much more attractive to him.

I used to worry a lot about pulverizing so much food, thinking it wasn't good for us to eat "baby food" until I remembered that I was always taught as a child that we should chew our food to a "cream" consistency in order to access all the nutrients and to properly pre-digest starches, and to make it easier on our digestion. We never did it adequately of course. We virtually inhale large chunks of food and then go to the drug store or doctor for solutions to our indigestion.

I'm not actually sure that blending the soup destroys much through oxidation. Maybe. But we drink it right after blending anyway while it is still warm from the blender so it's not such an issue-I don't think.

But you are right on with your last comment that no one should feel weird if they don't like raw soup. There is so much else to eat in so many other forms. Each to their own for sure.

Here is one we enjoy very much:
Creamy Celery Soup
2 cups warm water
1/3 cup cashews or other - like sunflower seeds which are cheaper and less fatty, etc.
1 good Tbsp. Miso
1 clove garlic
Other herbal seasoning to taste - dill etc.
1/2 head of celery (or 4-5 stalks) chopped fine about 1/4" to avoid strings
Lemon juice if desired
Turmeric if desired
Cayenne pepper if desired
You can also add some finely chopped veggies at the end for texture if you like.

Blend and serve. I put it through 1 or 2 cycles in my KTec depending on how warm the water is and how warm I want it to turn out. Once I let it go until it was steaming. Bad

I don't think you've found the ONE yet!

Are you comparing raw soup...to out of the can soup? Or soup that you say cut up the vegs and make soup? I miss my homemade soup...but you know what....I eat it...yep....the couple times I make it in the winter...from fresh vegs...I eat it...I don't feel that a couple bowls along with my family...is going to kill me...and it mostly for them...but feels good if it really cold out!!..LOL

I had started to say in my other post that my Creamy Celery Soup (without the lemon juice added) reminded us quite a bit of the taste of Campbell's Cream of Celery which my husband was almost addicted to for years. But then I thought not to say that here and deleted that sentence.

However, after reading EatRaw's comment about maybe comparing soups to canned, I thought I'd mention it anyway. Some people may have hated the canned Campbell's Celery, but many have likely used it for the base in lots of dishes and sauces. I used to use it in stroganoff along with the mushroom. I think it is the cashews in it that give it that almost sweetish tinge almost a bit like canned milk.

Just saying.

Now that may have turned many of you off, but oh well....

I LOVE raw soups. I usually have them daily. Soup and smoothies are my two staples.

I normally dislike celery, but love raw celery soup. That's the one I make the most.

Celery Soup
5-10 Celery Sticks
1-2 cups Greens
½-1 Avocado or 1-2 Tbs Olive Oil
Cilantro, Parsley or Scallion
1-2 Garlic cloves
4 cups Water
½-1 tsp Salt
Optional: Lemon Juice, tomato garnish

This is one of the first things i made raw and it is foolproof. I just prefer soup warm on a cold day.
I just blended about 6 roma tomatoes with a handful of cashews. I used my regular blender and then warmed it up on the stove till it was just warm enough. You can put a candy thermometor in it to make sure it doesn't get too hot. Pour it into a warm bowl or cup and its soo good!
Try some fresh basil and black pepper with it too. If you like tomatoe soup, you will LOVE it raw.
