View Full Version : Raw woman cures bipolar with raw
Hello all! I shared this on Facebook and was encouraged to share it here too.
I met a woman at my Bikram yoga class last night (Suzy Hoseus) who's been raw for 10 years and wrote a book about going from hospitalization and bi-polar to raw and totally healthy and symptom free!!
We ended up having a nice chat, closed down the studio, then went to her rental house for a couple hours to keep talking and have a nice coconut drink after the yoga.
I told her all about how I used to take ADHD medications until I went raw (and not longer needed to). She told me all about her detox and how scary it was to get rid of all those drugs.
But she's so beautiful and happy and vibrant - you'd never know she ever had any problems at all!! Funny, if you are raw long enough, you stumble on everything it seems. Sometimes these beautifully radiant people who were once living shells of a life or taking mounds of drugs just to be normal.
Raw is so darn healing!
Her book is called "Healing Bipolar and Depression: My Journey to Whole Health (http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?lt1=_blank&bc1=000000&IS2=1&bg1=FFFFFF&fc1=000000&lc1=0000FF&t=wwwreadysetra-20&o=1&p=8&l=as1&m=amazon&f=ifr&md=10FE9736YVPPT7A0FBG2&asins=1434380629)." I just started reading it, and it's already sucked me in. She writes from the heart, for sure!

That is so comforting to know that the results will come! I am on meds for OCD and really have seen the effects the medications can bring.. and sometimes confusion etc..that is part of the reason I want to go raw!

I can't remember the name of the guest, but Revell had a lady on her show and she did the same I think.

Thanks for sharing! :) I have Borderline Personality Disorder, with about a 1/2 page of underlying illness's, if anything I hope that being Raw will help alter my moods in the next couple of years!! That & therapy of course! I am not expecting any magic.
I also knew of someone that had Cancer & completely turned it around with getting on track with her health & being Optimistic with all things in life! She practices Raw too! :)

Best wishes Raw.N.It.Out! It's not magic but there certainly is the possibility for fantastic healing through good nutrition. I believe you can conquer it and be healed. I knew someone who exhibited classic BPD traits. They did not seek diagnosis or even recognize the behavior was a problem....it was always someone else's fault. This person was not a raw eater, but after they tried maca for a month or so, the moods had leveled out greatly, and the behavior that I thought might be due to BPD diminished. I expect with the two combined, raw and maca supplementation, you will have some terrific positive changes.
I really like what you have written below your post. This is so true and was helpful for myself to understand in dealing with that difficult to deal with person. I also expect that if they could get a grasp on it, it would help them too. I will be meditating on it during the fast I am on. Thank you for that bit of wisdom there.

Thank you Eva for your thread. I will be looking for the book. It sounds very interesting. There are some depression type illnesses in some of my family, and I would love to be able to help them. Maybe the book would be the key, as they don't seem too receptive to my thoughts and experience as to how different foods can be the culprit or the cure.

When it comes to emotional issues, whole nutrition is CRUCIAL... and whole THINKING is likewise crucial!
I've already noticed a consistent upward trend of HEALING in dealing with my own life-long depression/recurring Bipolar. :)
I was "diagnosed" as Bipolar several years ago by my step-father. My birth father, birth mother, and 6 of my 8 siblings all struggle with depression and/or Bipolar, and all my siblings are ADHD/ADD. (Most of them got medical diagnoses and now rely on medication to "be normal"... but with each of them, the medication fails in one way or another. Surprise, surprise.)
I do not take medications. I always felt that that would make things worse, and the few times pre-Raw when I tried using medication to help with ANY issue, it only exacerbated the problem.
Now, I eat 100% Raw/Living Vegan foods, and I am becoming more and more conscious about my thought patterns. The depression lifted early on in my 100% Raw journey, and I only find it trying to sneak back into my life when I am ill (which ONLY HAPPENS when I'm exposed to a handful of specific chemicals/materials to which I'm seriously allergic).
RAW is healing... for your Body and for you Soul.
I just saw this!! Great points!! It's so true. I am curious to know what my life would be like today if I had never been on medicines for ADHD. But you know what? I likely would never have ended up with ulcers and going raw and sharing this with other people. So, it's all good!
I just love the way you think! :)

I am bipolar and currently weaning off my psych meds. I find it very comforting to know that wellness *is* possible and that a raw foods diet can contribute to it. Thank you for your post. :)

This brings a lot of hope to me as a person who has suffered from sever depression and ADD for many many years ( as well as a lot of other health issues.) I'm currently 5 months pregnant with my second child, and the psychiatrist at the hospital wants me to go back on anti depressant meds even though my baby will with draw after birth and suffer for a week or so...NO THANKS! I was raw for 2 months a year a go and ALL my health issues were GONE...I'm going back to raw and sticking with it.
I'm just now seeing these last two posts... I don't know if you ladies are still lurking or posting around here... but it makes me smile to know this gave you some hope... There is always hope. Our bodies are so wonderfully made ~ we are not made to be depressed or bipolar or to deal with ADHD or anything else...
P.S. Sarain ~ good for you for saying NO and sticking to your guns!!!

I know that gluten and lactose are a huge cause towards bipolar, and many other "mental" illnesses. That's one of the wonders of raw, you can't eat what wasn't meant to be eaten.

great. this means a lot to me since My grandmother is bipolar, my aunt is ocd with manic tendencies and my mother has some bipolar issues. I always believed that the way we eat, live and breathe has a lot to do with mental health. Once again, thank you for sending the link and esp. to her for curing herself from bipolar. She should go on Oprah and tell all the truth of being raw, seriously

lol ~ that's one of my favorite things about it too! Sometimes I call it the "default diet" because it eliminates all the stuff people have issues with... so sometimes... who cares what the problem was... it goes away when they go raw... :)

:) I was so inspired by her ~ but not at all surprised... we are meant to be healthy! Are your family members open to trying raw food?!
